Description
Mhor was in great need when she, Deborah, and Myrrine finally returned to the outpost. She could not imagine a situation more dire . The moment reality set in, raining over her, all the optimism she had built up washed away. She had to do what she must.
And that was how she found herself on a hunt with Theia. Mhor needed food, especially in Rowena's absence; they would provide. Ilse was an excellent tracker, and it was one skill she was happy to speak of-- especially if it could help Mhor. But as she travelled along, she felt more and more her mind was absent from the task at hand, despite its importance. It was just outside Flora Fields whenshe spoke what truly weighed on her mind.
"Can I share something with you--? It's okay if not," she added, quickly, "this is a troubling time and I do not want to burden anyone with anything more."
Theia met her gaze then, a quizzical but warm look that ended in a smile. "You're not a burden, whatever you have to say can stay between us."
Ilse met her gaze, then glanced away. She took a big breath, then began a story. "I have a sister. we grew up together, and we were very close. together, we left our birth pack; I knew I was leaving that strange, oppressive place behind, forever. She had pups, all sons. I visited very often and loved to watch them grow up. When one of them was hardly a year old, he just... vanished, without a word. Tore them apart, we all searched long as we could. Eventually her other two sons, ... my nephews Buck and Pallas, joined a pack. My sister and her mate, they returned to our birth pack. And I went in search of the domain."
"At times you move on from a pack, find somewhere new-- such is life. And I love it here in Mhor. And the Domain is kind. I would always carry their memory in my heart, as they were."
She stopped abruptly, sniffing, ears pricked. "Wait, look! The grass is parted and nibbled here!" She dipped her head closer, sniffing more closely. "Oh, but that's an expecting doe... might not be worth it..."
When a decision had been made, Ilse went on. "... A wolf at the outpost, a Riverfellian called Ashwood, mentioned my last nephew's name." She swallowed. "Orsu. And now I know he is here, in the Domain." Panic settled in her throat, ears falling flat to her head. "But what can I do? with all that's happened in Mhor, I can't imagine what went down in Riverfell! And if anything occured, he was a part of it. That much I know for certain."
She shook her head. "...If anything happened while I knew he was not far, I don't know what I would do with myself."
"That's your nephew? Well now, I can see the family resemblance."
"You-- you know him? Have you met him? How-- how is he?"
"Why don't you ask him yourself?" And Theia said just Ilse needed to hear from a friend: "What if you spoke to Faolan, asked if Sekuli could fly there to bring a message for him? It's been a long while, but perhaps she'll remember the route there."
And that was the plan -- when she worked out what to say, and how to approach Faolan and her familiar. And for that she was grateful.
Her tail began to wag, and she bounded ahead. "Let's find something great for us all to eat!"... I'm writing this before breakfast and got HUNGRY ok ok ok hi art.
(WC: 540 words)
Been working on this for the past couple days! I wasn't sure I was going to love it, and furthermore have never really learned how to use glorious foliage/nature brushes, but I think I did good here! I really like how this turned out. Lotus-Wolfdragon helped me with the dialogue in this, writing Theia's replies, so the word count does not factor in what Lotus wrote! Hope it was okay I ended up using the little interaction, Lotus
I loved drawing Theia again. I was looking back at the last time I drew Theia and I think this illustration feels more accurate to how I picture her, and hopefully to her reference.
