wait a minute you want me to believe that Luna is OK with the telescope floating around in her mane but not with twilight in a space suit?

You can't know what (or who) else is floating around in it.

Maybe person with such power don't need an army at all.

Impossible and even more likely opposite there'is not enoughΒ cooling agent in empty space and huge objects like brown dwarfs require billions years to cooldown. Cooling down of spaceships with all their electronics and humans inside is very serious problem. The absence of atmoshere makes any unprotected organism vulnerable to star radiation. You can getΒ solar burn if you move to open space without protection at Earth's orbit.

im confused do you freeze in space or not?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Beltar1 In reply to kabhes [2018-04-24 15:31:50 +0000 UTC]

You can not freeze in open space because there's not enoughΒ substance to take the heat from you. The only way for cooling down is IR-radiation (if you're not hot enough to produce visible light) but it's too slow. The temperature of remaining particles like gas molecules may be very high interstellar gas clouds may have temperature of 30 millions K but there're so few particles that you will never notice their presence, even if you inside a nebula.

thank you for explaining

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

fotland42 In reply to Beltar1 [2018-04-25 01:50:48 +0000 UTC]

That's not entirely true. Assuming you're dead (presumably you asphyxiated) so you're not producing any new body heat, and you don't spend too much of your time in direct sunlight (although I certainly don't know off the top of my head what fraction of your time is too much), you will eventually freeze as you bleed off heat through blackbody radiation. It's just not a problem you need to worry about while you're alive.

mr-Sy In reply to fotland42 [2018-05-15 17:39:11 +0000 UTC]

actually you are both wrong, in space is easier to boil than to freze due to the almost void like state the mater has there

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

fotland42 In reply to mr-Sy [2018-05-16 12:46:01 +0000 UTC]

I can assure you, flesh will not sublimate at any pressure.

Now, if you toss a ball of water into space, that'll boil and freeze at the same time, as all the high-energy molecules on the outside escape, cooling what's left behind. (Your saliva and exposed mucus will flash-boil like that, probably pretty completely assuming you're at living body temperature when you're thrown into vacuum since that'll keep the saliva and mucus from becoming cold quickly, but there's not much of that so even if you're alive at the time you'll have bigger concerns.) After that, sublimation will depend on heat input, so in general the ice will sublimate on any face exposed to the sun/other relevant star from within the ice line, and not sublimate otherwise. Any volatile fluid will do the same (with a different threshold for sublimation, of course). Bodies, however, mostly don't leave their volatile fluids exposed to the outside world, since they have those fluids for a reason and don't like losing them to evaporation.
