Description
Acrylics on 50x80cm canvas. Commisioned work. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" but in the case of Narcisus the saying takes a nice turn. Technique inspired by Agnes Cecile. The flower is made of leather, glued and painted over.Related content

Thank you for your critique! I might get one more star for technique when you see the detail on the flower I love Agnes Cecile's work and I'm glad to I watched her almost from the beginning and it would have been impossible not to try

You were able to add so much emotion in the eye of the model. First of all, I love the removed eye. It is well compared to the flower on top of the head. Yet, unlike the color on top of the head, this lower is darker and stands out more, representing the pain, the blood, and the grotesque removal of the eye. This works great with the expression on the model's face.

Thank you! This frontal picture of the painting does not show the volume of the flower, I will add a detail picture very soon

I have to say I absolutely adore this piece. It is different from most of the pieces I've seen of yours in that is it
A. Violent and brutal
and
B. The portrait is not as abstract in that the person has eyes nose and a mouth, though I also love your abstract images of people as well.
I love this image because of how obviously grotesque it is and yet how very nice it is to just look at it. The color use is amazing as always; SO much texture and the shocking bold colors against the pastels is lovely.
The reason I marked down originality is because unfortunately I have seen Agnes Cecile and other artists take the concept of color exploding from one or both eyes and beat its head on the ground repeatedly until there was nothing left of it. However yours is original and unique despite that because I feel like I know exactly what happened to this child and the painting feels like you captured the precise moment that it happened, whereas the other paintings i've seen feature ambiguous colors that just float around aimlessly
I absolutely love it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="

Thank you so much for my first critique! I wanted to try the eye thing for myself and also I was curious how the whole dripping technique would work in acrylics rather than watercolor. I was commissioned to tell the story of Narcisus, about his terrible faith but how good it must have felt. So bright colors for happiness and the amazed/scared look on his face when he sees his reflection and the downfall begins. Initially it had a hand reaching out of the canvas but it kind of got in the way of the dripping thingies and I wanted a clean look. I'm thankful for the high grades

No problem! I use acrylic paints for the watercolor parts in my paintings so I don't really know the difference between watercolor and acrylic I guess but the 'dripping thingies' are one of my favorite things to use/see in paintings. I'm not sure why, I just can't get enough of them. I also really like your Atlas painting. I also did an atlas painting (which I did before I found yours, thank god or I might have just copied it exactly) but I like to look at yours because it looks like a more three dimensional image of the same person from a different angle

Wow this is really cool. Β I have to agree with one of the statements in the critique by Gitta-Mikk. Β You totally captured the exact moment of the color exploding from her.
Β I especially like how the mouth is agape. Β This truly portrays how unexpected and unprepared this girl is for what's happening to her. Β But then again who could be prepared for something like that. Β Truly amazing piece of art. Grotesque and stunningly beautiful all at the same time.Β

I totally agree with what you say. All art has a craftsmanship embedded in it and that skill can easily be compared and quantified. I can agree to the fact that a french chef can make sushi but I doubt he could do a dragon roll in under 2 minutes, with the right finish, and serve it at the peak of it's flavor, as a 80 year sushi master would. But if he wants to make a dragon roll, tries and fails, maybe even eats it, he might not even feel the subtle differences of flavor since all the ingredients are there, in the end he made a sushi roll... bad roll. All rolls starts bad.
Painting of mine from 6 years ago seem really bad. Ugly. I should feel bad when some says "you made that horrible shit" but I know that without the bad work I could not have come to the style and finish I'm able to do today. I'm sure it will be the same 6 years from now...I would hate not to move forward, I want each painting to be different and my art to change with me. Most people stop evolving when they mastered their craft
