Description

The thing that made me choose this area of Trieste for this project (parts of Roiano and Gretta, with this view on Conconello) was the abundance of industrial-looking structures, such as power lines and TV / radio towers, juxtaposed with the foresty hills. Although the specific look is different from Dark’s Winden, the basics are there.

Here, as soon as I was shooting I tried to use what could have been a distraction – the power cable in the foreground – to emphasise the converging geometry I was going to create in postproduction.

What was entirely serendipitous is the small tower-like structure in the centre: the scene captured by the camera sensor is always a bit wider than what the mirror shows in the viewfinder, so that structure being at the very edge of the frame was unplanned; it just happened to work perfectly in the final photo.
