Description this ugly beast is the second prototype of my macro flash tube
an extendable, adjustable all-mirrored cardboard construction guiding the light from the hotshoed flash close to the target through a diffuser
it can be folded flat for transport within seconds

i still have to make some adjustments, like cutting the end piece slanted to light more from the side, curving the diffuser inwards to concentrate the light more into the middle, and making it matte black of course
and i need a longer macro lenshood

but the principle is sound and lets me shoot extreme macros at high apertures with my inverted lens macro setup

Looks nice and helpful I think I might prefer to have it in black though, to match the camera But it reallly doesn't matter all that much. As long as it works.
Ohhh...and niiiice looking lense...
*jealous*

yeah, i got me black cardboard for the final thing already

the lens is indeed nice (canon EF 17-40mm f/4 USM L) not the fastest, but sharp and crisp and good value for the money

Hehe, sounds nice I would definatley like to give something like this a try sometime. Seems to be very handy.

Hmm I need a macro lens soon... I just got a EOS 300D on wednesday Lots of fun. How much is that lens? Some of the lenses are quite expensive.

ahh, wait!
this is not a macro lens, what you see here is my inverted lens macro setup (i forgot to mention it in the description above (fixed it now))

i got this lens for 750€ (quite a lot for me too!) but it's definitely worth it
for macro work you can also put an inverted lens in front of another lens, then you don't need a complicated adapter like this

Ahh ok i see Seems like a nice setup indeed
Yeah, 750€ is quite a lot. But a possible price. At least when it's worth it
I'll have a look at various macro solutions before bying anything. Thanks for the info in this. Greatly appreciated.

well, you got 17-40mm covered by the stock lens, so no need for that thing...
canon makes a nice macro lens EF 100mm f/2.8 macro USM for about 550€

the 100mm would be a good length in addition to the stock lens (it's also at the far end of portrait length), it's one of the sharpest canon lenses ever, and a macro, of course, since you're interested in that field
(i still regret that i didn't buy it instead of the 85mm f/1.8)

Sounds like a interesting lense to consider! I will indeed take a closer look at it 550€ is not that bad either. Might be a bit more expensive here in Norway, but still...
Thanks for all the advice I just need to save up a little money now
