Description
This would be a gift from *Scarfgirl to her good friend Suichiro featuring his character Massacre Melanie.The information i received about this pyromantic pixie painted her in a very conflicting light. At once, she was remorseless and filled with hate and everything else that made me, for the first time in many years, think of Burn by NIN. At the same time, I was given music to help set the mood for her which was more emotionally depressing and introspective, dealing with loss and regret far more then anger and hate.
I attempted to work this conflict in character into the piece while keeping things fairly simple. After all, i had been wanting to paint Melanie for some time based strictly on her look and, to a degree, I still wanted to focus on that without too much else getting in the way.
I guess when you put all that together, you come up with the above painting

I love her face! What's that on her cheek, I can't quite tell if it's a tear, scar, or just a highlight (dang my tired eyes!) I like the beat up gas can and the textures on her pants and jacket.

I know that Melanie is a little confusing since she appears to be a very simple, one sided character. But as with all things I create, there's a dual nature to her. That's part of why my name is Japanese for 'switch.' I love conflict and opposites.
She's my Grimm Fairy Tale, a character with no happy ending but a strong message. I'm endlessly delighted that you were able to squeeze something wonderful out of my ramblings, Graver. Also, thanks for pointing out the NIN song. It's like it was made just for her! :3

that's because I entitled it Burn because of the song
I could only ever do fire digitally and it was still a bitch and a half to get right. It always seems to fall flat in any other medium which made me glad I was commissioned to do this piece digitally
