Assenev, the Mother-Goddess in Unduasia, an all-but-forgotten Paganistc culture employed by the demon race of Mynans on Catholis nine thousand years ago. She represents motherhood and the chaos of life. She is associated with darkness, cobwebs and the night sky, all of which were considered holy for this reason.

In case you're wondering, Mynans are race in the story I'm writing. Catholis is their home planet, which was taken over by non-Earthling humans about ten thousand years ago. The Mynans, despised for being what the humans called "demons", were enslaved and generally persecuted. This religion and several others, which had been in practice before the invasion, suddenly became intensely important to the Mynans. They held onto it, for they needed hope and a sense of identity more than anything else.
Then, a few hundred years later, a massive revolt exploded into a war, and many died on both sides. But the Mynans, although smaller, were stronger in number and in ability, and they succeeded.
After the human government was wiped out, several others attempted to take its place. But all of them were greedy, and they routinely destroyed each other.
Now, it is a standing joke to ask "Who's the leader this week?". For all means and purposes, there is no government. New laws are ignored, because everyone knows that they won't be around long enough to be enforced. The planet is a haven for criminals of all kinds, to the point that one almost has to be one in order to survive.
