Description This character started out as my idea for a new costume for Stingray, Marvel's seafaring, powersuit-weafing superhero. I dig the name, but I don't think his costume evokes a stingray (except for the shape of his wings/cape). Sssssooooo I tried to make a new costume which is more distinctive, unique, and appropriate. I decided to make the helmet's shape evoke a manta.

Anyway, the comments on this picture kept on coming up something like: "Nice design, but nothing like Stingray, you should make him a new character." So I bowed to pressure. Now, instead of this being Stingray, he's STINGRAVEN.

Raymond Corvus was a brave search-and-rescue diver. During a dangerous rescue in the Pacific ocean he was lost at sea. He sank down to Mu (a.k.a. Lemuria) where his nearly-dead body was found by the people of that lost underwater continent. The damage from the drowning, cold, and pressure was severe. In order to save Raymond, and to adapt him to their deep-sea environment, Mu's mythical engineers modified his body. After becoming embroiled in the sunken world's politics and intrigue, Raymond eventually returned to the surface.

With the physical modifications (and a supercavitation suit) he acquired while in Mu, Raymond has become effectively superhuman -- a mighty force on land, in the air, and under the water. He returns to his life as a search-and-rescue diver, but secretly fights crime and corruption under the guise of "Stingraven." He soon learns that the power struggles of Mu are not limited to the ocean; Stingraven must navigate the hidden conspiracies of, and/or make alliances with, the agents of Mu's many factions and their infiltration of the surface world.

Oh, by the way: Stingraven here is trademark, copyright, patent, property, and all that jazz of ME! :-P

Really nice design, though I'm not feeling much of Marvel Stingray. The color scheme reminds me of Ben 10 and the helmet feels more like Black Manta. I could see this guy as
an orignal character though.

Thanks for the compliment, MarvelGuru. You make an excellent point -- it's true, he really bears no visual similarity to the character as he stands now. The reason for that is that, other than his "cape," I don't there's anything in Marvel's Stingray that evokes a stingray. Like, at all. The colors, the styling... it's all wrong. In my opinion. So I started from scratch, using only the name "Stingray" and going from there. And this is what I came up with.

I dig the costume! Why not make him an original character and bring him to KING? www.KING-Comic.com

Cool design, do the neon green portions glow or are they a flat color?
