A storm breaks up at sunset, over Woodpecker Bay, on the West Coast of New Zealand.

This image is from the first sunset of a 5 day trip to the West Coast, in November last year. This was as far south as I got - most of that time was spent further north either in Westport or Karamea and the Kohaihai river, but this evening I had just arrived to the awesome sight of a storm breaking up and decided to chase the light down the coast, to see what I could find to shoot. Well, the half hour-ish drive to this spot was one of sideways rain followed by rays of light bursting through the clouds, then more sideways rain. I got to the beach maybe half an hour before sunset and was treated to a great show. I also managed to get caught out by a wave while I still had my boots on, and spent the next 3 days trying to dry my boots out!! Not that easy when you're sleeping in your car and it never gets warm or dry enough outside to do any good!
