So, I saw the Thor movie. Wait, Thor? Thor who? I don't remember no Thor. Sorry, my eyes and mind were fixed on Tom Hiddleston's wonderfull performance playing Loki. Say what you will, but he *owned* the screen. =3

This isn't a scene from the movie, and in the movie continuity it obviously didn't happen. It's a story from the book Edda (and the Marvel comics), where Loki tries to win the favor of the Aesir and for all his good intentions ends up punished.

On Loki advise, the sons of Ivaldi, created three gifts for the Aesir. They created a wig of gold to replace the golden hair of Sif and the invincible spear Gungnir for Odin.

Dwarf brothers Bokk and Eiti were jealous of the craftsmanship of the sons of Ivaldi. Loki made a wager with them, that they could not make anything better than the sons of Ivaldi. The bet was that Loki would lose his head if Brokk and Eiti made something better.

The Aesir were very pleased with the gifts, but above all with the hammer Mjölnir. By Odins decision, Loki lost his bet against the dwarfs and was to loose his head as well. He managed to talk his way out of it, but the gods did agree to allow Brokk to sew Loki's mouth shut. When Loki tried to escape, Thor brought the terrified Trickster back, while Brokk sealed Loki's lips with wire. For this, Thor was given the hammer, which Loki first intended to keep for himself.
