Description
Three years ago I went away with three friends to spend new year's eve in the mexican southeast. We had a blast and I don't remember having so much fun at any other point in my life. I was gonna crash with another friend who lived in Playa del Carmen for a couple of days and to thank her family for their hospitality I wanted to give them one of my drawings as a present so I packed a dozen of them into this beautiful black leather portfolio when we set off on the road. We got a flat tire at one point and, to get the spare, we had to remove everything that was in the trunk. Since i didn't want to expose my portfolio by placing it on the road I decided to put it on top of the car while we changed the tire. A black portfolio laying on top of a black SUV, four sleep-deprived, partied-out punks with six hundred miles to go before sun-down, you do the math. I do remember distinctly hearing a loud thump once we were in motion and thinking to myself "if it's not the tire, i don't even want to know what that noise was". i only found out once we reached our destination that it had been my portfolio falling to the ground on the way to Veracruz, but by then I was so tired that i didn't really give a damn. Of all the drawings this was the one I was sorriest to have lost but luckily I had scanned it beforehand.Related content

This is superb, and while it is disturbing in a way, it is so imaginative and creative, it makes the fantastic a new reality. And, of course, that is what good art is all about. Cheers.

I'm really glad you liked it, although I find it strange to hear you found it comforting, most people I know who've seen it think it to be more on the disturbing side of things. Glad to meet someone with different viewpoints

wow, that's a pretty incredible story... it really sucks. i wonder if anyone ever found the portfolio...
amazing picture, though. i love the realistic shading, but how all the objects/creatures still have a slight outline around each of them, it really makes it look solid. great work. maybe this picture is hanging in the covered wagon of a desert drifter.

I like this version better I must say. It's surreal quality is strangely pleasing. Once again, brilliantly done; your pencil work never ceases to amaze me.

The contrast and perspective definitely make this one stand out among the crowd, it was the very first thing I looked at in the bunch. Even the way you filled the empty space in the back with nice tones works.
I love it!

good grief!
if i found this and the book,
i would've made every effort
to find the artist, if not to return
the work, at least to compliment!
the story is as strange and dreamlike
as the drawing itself . . .

I can only wish that you'd been the one to find it. As it stands, however, i think it's far more likely that it ended up being ripped to shreds by another car. I did go back on the way home to look for it but I couldn't find anyone that would know of it's whereabouts, even after I offered a reward in cash.

Yeah i think so too, the Maya version is still a long way from finished and quite frankly a bit lacking but I keep talking about 3D so I figured i had to at least upload one still to my gallery. Glad you liked this one better though. cheers.

Tell you what, I'd be pretty stupified if I found a portfolio with this in it on the side of some road in the southeast

Yeah, I'm sorry to say that, given in that it fell in the middle of a transited highway the odds of anyone finding anything but shreds are rather slim. Still i can hope...
