I never did a piece particularily for the New Years so this will be a first for me. This was a simple sketch I did a few days ago, but then I decided to take it further just for fun. I haven't named her yet, but you can see her here [link] and here [link] . Yea, she's probably freezing as it's winter, but I'll just say she has magic powers to keep herself nice and toasty

And now for a little "edujumaction"! The thing she's holding is a shimenawa ( 注連縄 - しめなわ - shi-me-na-wa) which can be a braided straw rope used for ritual purification in Shinto practices. They can usually be found at sacred locations such as shrines.

Since there are no Shinto temples nearby where I live, this will have to do as an offering to the New Year for good luck and good health to those closest to me and myself.
