I think it's very good to spherize your texture to make it into a planet.
With 3ds max you get a sphere that looks better than when done in photoshop with the spherize filter

Freelancer remains one of the best space games I've ever played, I'm glad to see there's more around here who have played it.
I'm still waiting for another game like that. I am really surprised that no space sim/game has surpassed FL yet, in my opinion, when it comes to space flight, ship combat, trading, and the like.
