Description This idea hit me this morning as I got ready for work. At the risk of being in poor taste for making this the topic of a cartoon, and I realize that many people have died and suffered, it is something that affects all of us. And there's a story behind it. My wife runs a school kitchen, and has effectively been laid off for a month because of the coronavirus. I myself face the prospect of doing security work for a nearly empty facility soon, depending on how things go. We live across the street from a high school, which is now basically empty, and I couldn't help but think of how crazy things must be for those students preparing to graduate: it was weird enough being a senior in 1981 when our president was shot. Yesterday our state government gave permission to the schools to shorten their school years by 20 days - I have not seen this since 1977 when then Governor Rhodes of Ohio declared the same thing because of an extended snow emergency. And this whole corona thing - I haven't seen anything like this in my 56 years. But hopefully things will turn around soon enough, and we'll get back to life as we once knew it. FATC - Fingers and toes crossed.

Meanwhile in my country...

I believe it's important to bring awareness to why it's happening, not just that it's happening.

I'm currently self-isolating, by the way.

Hope you’re safe from COVID-19. The Australian state of Victoria (my home state) declared a “state of emergency” a few days ago, but it hasn’t affected my personal life so far, asides from most of the motorsport categories that I follow being postponed/cancelled.

I was curious about things down your way, as we haven't heard much news apart from Tom Hanks. Here in the state of Indiana we've only had about 20 cases, but we had our first fatality yesterday. Schools and universities are shut down, bars and restaurants are closed except for carry-out orders. My plant is closed except for us in security and in maintenance; my wife, who works at a school, is effectively laid off for about three weeks. And the good weather is just coming along here. Hopefully this thing moves along quickly, but we're still going to be economically impacted by it.

I think there’s close to 100 cases in Victoria, with about 450 cases and 5 deaths in the whole of Australia. Only a select few schools have closed doors here, but most non-essential events which generate mass crowds are being cancelled while sport events are either being ran without fans attending or have been cancelled/postponed.

I think we're a little further along than that here, especially in the big cities. My other artist friend has to shelter in place in southern California for a while.

Hopefully people in America aren’t hoarding toilet paper like they’re doing in Australia.

We've done just that...a few nutbags here and there.

That seems about right; gag them to stop them drinking the alcohol gel!

I've got some Guinness waiting for me at home - I'll just self-disinfect with that ::

Interesting concept.
I hope all will be ok as much as it even possible. In Russia we have now about 40 sick people and no death - but it only beginning (((

It doesn't seem to be killing that many people; most of the deaths in the US were at a nursing home in Seattle, so older folks and the sick seem to have a bad time with it.

I agree with kaspired.  At a time like this, a little humor is definitely called for.  What people need to do is to calm down.  This is America, not medieval Europe.  Yes, there have been deaths from the coronavirus.  And it has disrupted many institutions, but there is no need as Kipling put it, to "run in circles, scream and shout."  I can understand how you felt in '81.  I was just leaving the Army when President Reagan was shot and nearly killed by that whack job, Hinckley.  I was both stunned and outraged at this.  However, I refuse to give in to any panic.  I will take the proper precautions like using hand sanitizer.  But I will not run around with a surgical mask over my nose and mouth.  Both I and my art will be upbeat.  Apart from that, this is a nice cartoon commentary of the times we live in.  Well done.

You're welcome.  At times like this, we need all the humor we can get.

I saw a couple of hilarious pieces of art out there since this has been happening.
