"I've been waiting for you, Obi Wan. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete - when I left you, I was but the learner. Now I am the master."Some of the best lines in the entire 6 movie series are delivered here (how many times have you heard people say 'if you strike me down I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine'? Maybe it's just the people I hang out with), we see the return of an epic rivalry, and this is the lightsaber duel that captured the hearts and imaginations of nerds everywhere, to boot.
Aside from that, most of my inspiration came from the thought of 'What if they actually had a good stunt choreographer to direct that lightsaber duel?'

They also had to be really careful not to break the blades in that duel. The flashes of the blade clashes disguised the fact that the blades never actually touched.

Yes, perhaps one of the most lamest moments in Star Wars, especially since they can do so much better than that!

Maybe it was one of the worst scenes in the series, but it was also made before any of the others, back before kung-fu wizard/monk jedi were a thing. If anything, titling the prequels "I, II, III" made us watch them first and gave us expectations for the original trilogy, which couldn't always be attained due to the limited technology of the time, especially for the 1977-fresh "A New Hope". Case in point, the Vader/Obi-Wan fight was slow like this because, if I remember correctly, the original concept was closer to samurai fighting with heavier weapons.
Yes, it's not as action-packed as the other fights, but there's more to it than that, especially with context provided by the prequel movies, TCW and Rebels. If our expectations are subverted in this fight, it's because heavily choreographed fights were added in later movies.

And yet they still made the Death Star Assault scene totally freakin' epic, despite it being the first one made.

Again, the concept of the Jedi changed vastly after A New Hope came out. The idea of acrobatic, choreographed fights hadn't been come up with at the time. I still think the fight between Obi-Wan and Vader is awesome, but for other reasons than the actual fight. It's like the fight between Obi-Wan and Maul in Rebels - very short, but still has impact because of the content and context.

yeah sooo awesome......the prequels were okay...But the originals were Awesome!!! I only wish the S-FX and fight choriography from the later ones could be moved to the original trilogy....

love the perspective.... although I think the fights should've been just as they are... both vader and obi wan got old and probably grew more cautios... (althoug vader seems confident he knows what obi wan is capable of -when he lost his limbs- also obi wan who used a defensive style, makes sense for him to bide his time and wait for vader to attack first) and I think he also planned to be 'struck down' by vader since the moment he encountered him

I like the plain and simple fight in Episode IV much more then those clean, choreographed fights in the new movies. These fights look human and are about deep inner struggle. I love this fight because, after seeing Episode III, this scene looks very different. And this picture is a wonderful piece of art. Great job! ^_^

the perspective, lighting, movement, form, and just about everything else is perfect, except the piece has a bit of an overall "rough/blurriness" which bothers me slightly. otherwise FUCKING AWESOME.

I really enjoy how you captured both Vader's and Obi Wan's personalities is in this. You really captured Vader's intense anger that he had for Obi Wan all those years.
