Description
Oil on CanvasLetting go of the fist
...
Just logged on to find a recieved a DD?! So excited. Thank you for all the comments and attention.
I noticed a few comments asking 'what its about'...I may have missed my window of attention, but I'm going to add this anyway.
This painting is about holding on when the love in your life has stopped. It's about that moment, when you realize, you are being left to dangle alone, grasping onto someone who isn't grasping back. The other person, is in fact, resisting your attempts to hold on...and you know you have to let go, but when you do, you know there is something dark and dreadful waiting below. You will probably survive the fall, but you will be changed forever by the impact. It is so. hard. to. let. go.

This is really amazing.. Reminds me a little of a short story by Stephen King called "Last Rung on the Ladder" or something like that. Gorgeous work, amazing perspective, WOW!

What a wonderful painting! It is definitely worthy of a DD. I think you really did a good job with the emotion in her eyes.

This looks exactly like my friend Melanie! Same eyelashes, hair, eye colour, face shape, even lips and nose! How peculiar.
But fabulous work.

The girl in the painting didn't like the resemblance so much. Said her nose was 'too sharp'. In her defense, I did make her eyes about twice the size of her actual eyes...but needed to do it to give her more of a sense of panic.

A little of Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" in this perhaps. To be honest, this is probably the best oils I've seen in all my life.

Wow! My gosh this looks great!
The detail looks fine, and I like how you took the time to make a rather complex background! Good show!

Oh my goodness! I just came across your work, I cannot believe this is oil on canvas. You obviously have a knack for detail and strong lighting (like Caravaggio). Please, consider submitting some of your work to the online arts magazine I'm an editor for. www.murmurationsmagazine.com Let me know if you're interested.

I really like Caravaggio. Not typically an influence, but then, I don't usually work with these particular colors...Palette started normally, but I wanted it to be a bit more twisted and nightmarish, so I started adding black wash to the background. Really popped the characters off the canvas...ended up with a kind of sepia coloring.

this is beautiful. JUST.BEAUTIFUL. you can get a clear sense of the emotion, and you can look into the deep meaning of it, but it's simple enough so that it won't give you a headache.

Thank you! I personally enjoy singular kinds of statements. I appreciate paintings with a lot of interpretations, but I prefer it when I understand what the artist wants to say.
Nice Gif by the way.

Hauntingly beautiful. The depth of emotion and feeling in this painting is incredible. You can see she doesn't know whether to hold on or let go -- it just touches me deeply. Magnificent. Adding to my favorites and Watching.

That's it exactly, she knows she should let go of that fist, but it's so hard to do.

Ohh where will the world take her after letting go? Perhaps by falling, she's figuratively rising closer to her true destiny. Lovely. (Where'd the fist come from?)
