Description Not every ship exists on replicator rations. Some must have regular cooks on board.
The tricky thing was trying to figure out what department they would belong to. There is actually very little info about them.

Poor Colton won't be able to taste anything for about a week.

They'd be part of the Supply Department.Β  That's what they are part of in the US Navy.Β  I think it's because they are put in charge of the ship's food supplies. And one of the perks of being a Captain is having your own personal cook (I think that's because the Captain doesn't keep the same hours as any other crew member.)

I put him in the right color then. This cook is going to have traumatic flashback everytime someone mentions the H word for a while

Yeah... he'll be eating oatmeal for the next week to recover.Β  I did wonder, though, what KIND of spicy Hasperat actually is.Β  Spicy like chillies, spicy like pepper, or spicy like Wasabi (or are Bajorans sadisdic enough to put all three kinds of hot in their Hasperat?)

According to the description, a proper hasperat sears the tongue and makes the eyes water. I'm thinking all three.

Searing the tongue and making the eyes water is the sign of capsaicin heat which means Chillies.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capsaici… Capsaicin also affects the sinuses and skin.Β

Really good wasabi can also have the same effect. I've watched several of my friends react like that when eating sushi

Wasabi and Horseradish will definitely clear out the nasal passages, but Capsaicin actually attacks the mucus membranes causes them to produce more and more mucus.Β

Poor sap needs to do more research on the crew, not just the food but the people eating it. Nice. I really enjoy your work. Hope things are getting better at home.

I've watch enough cooking shows to see that some chefs have enormous egos. They think they know better

Yeah there is a LOT of chefs out there with HUGE egos. I have met only a couple, but it seemed like they believed we should be blessed he was there. I have met some that were more realistic too, but they are the rare ones.

Kristin would rather do her nails than her job at time. Moments like this teach her what her priorities should be.

Is it bad that I'm picturing Terry Crews playing Colton? Also I'm starting to think about what would happen if an Ex-Borg tried it?

I agree Terry Crew's would ham up his roll on GX-9901's comic strip perfectly!Β  Great Idea!
