Description Thank You, [link] !!!
He drew this truly awesome lineart, and I just had to color it...

And he's letting me post it! Thanks a million, pal!
I colored this with my set of 50 washable Crayola markers - no joke - augmented by a bunch of ancient architectural markers - brand unknown - that I inherited from a friend - Whew! Duller, lighter, less-intense colors FTW!!
And may I add that the little bits of shading Beamer put into the lineart really helped me? My brain fails to really comprehend shading, as of yet. I'm sure there are still major issues in this, but deal with it, OK? I'm still learning, as we all must.

So I worked, re-worked, and reworked this, and it's starting to look it - not as crisp and clean. But I decided to sacrifice crisp visual Mud in favor of somewhat sloppy visual Unity - I hope I've come close. That background just about killed me - it's so detailed and interesting, but I didn't want it to fight with the bots, so I kept toning it down.. and down... There are some areas with I kid you not at least 5 layers of color on them, as I'd try something and think, "Nope - not that either!" I'm a little worried about everything being the same value - that was a big worry starting out... but at least you can see Prowl back there (he hung back for a long while in visual obscurity). And it is interesting to see how the colors are effected by the scanning - browned-down, I would say.
Here's my first version, when I thought I was done, before I showed it to an artist friend and she pointed out a few places where the background was claiming too much attention:

Think I did right? I feel generally more comfortable with the reworked one, or I wouldn't post it. It is sloppier, though. I was burned out and tired.

Anyway, hope you like it. I sure enjoyed coloring it. Now... checking Ebay for used Prismacolor markers... I will sooooo provide a home for any lonely and unloved Prismacolor orphans out there!

PS - I do not own Ultra Magnus, Grimlock, or Prowl, and if I did, I would set them free. Hasbro, however, has other ideas, and maintains tight control over their robotic creations.

This is absolutely gorgeous. You've made me want to try coloring with my unknown markers. I thought you have to have pricey markers in order to do the best coloring. But really this is fantastic. Awesome job! Instant favorite! I think the dusty look adds to the "mood" of it being underground (I'm assuming.)

Thank you so much!
And yes, it is completely possible to color with any type of markers. It's just easier to make the snooty ones look smooth. Go for it! And note me when you've finished!! I'd love to see what you do.

I actually really like using crayola markers ...or any unknown, had in the drawer since i was 6 markers i have. Considering the tools used i think this turned out well, i kinda like the lack of crisp and clear, it gives it a more 'dusty' quality that suits the pic.

Definately aquire some bleed-proof paper, that even makes lower quality markers look good.

You dun good, Prime! Enough practice at this, and you'll be a pro in no time

Maybe you should invest in some higher quality pens, if you're going to be doing this more often. Also, working on a bleed resistant paper , like inking paper or bristol paper, can help to keep things crisp, and prevent bleed throughs.

I'm trolling Ebay for Prismacolors as we speak. But the paper suggestion is a good one. I was planning on printing anything ese I attempt on my better paper, but a non-bleed type would be better... must try.

man... markers look like they're tricky to use on something like this, but i think you did well! magnus looks the best of the three and really stands out in the pic. great work! thank you!
