Description
This is 's epic, Epic, EPIC, EPIC! lineart of The Eternal Struggle.Of course, I mentally appropriated it for the part in my story that takes place within the Matrix.
If I had this to do over again, would I make the background darker/blacker/starry? I am still not sure. Dark backgrounds are so easy to do WRONG. Witness some of my attempts, notably Wildman's Bumblebee. [Insert sad FailFace here] Part of it is that, despite what you might think, markers simply do not go as dark as we would like them to. Oh, you think you've got a decent black/dark blue/etc, but what you've really got is mud. And I really wanted it to feel floaty, a little bit confusing, like there was a lot of space around them...
Anyways. This is what I've been working on/fighting to finish/sweating blood upon these last few months. I've been wanting to color this for AGES. I saw it and just about lost my mind.
1. Stormbringerish designs.
2. Me vs. Megs
3. THE DON
4. PRETTY!!!
I had to color it.
But right after I'd saved the lineart to my computer, in the midst of that heady getting-permission-from-The Don-to-color-ANYTHING period of glory, he removed it from his gallery due to some legal issue or other.
I
Because I figured that if he could not post it, I could not color and post it either.
But then the uber-nice ~wordmongerer colored it.....
So then I had to follow after.
And here you are.
As always, I am not satisfied with my abilities to make lineart sing like the true art gods can. But I'm still learning, and every so often, I do something good.
Please let me know if you see anything you think needs fixing. I'll gladly accept helpful criticism. Can't learn if nobody tells me where things aren't working!
Love to all,
Prime out.
Prismacolor markers, colored pencil on white cardstock
THANK YOU, DON!!!!!!!!!
Oh, by the way -- at least two separate people have asked facetiously, "Are they dancing?"

Sadly, I cannot yet get a good scan of it, so I'm leaving this as the main version.

They're not DANCING!
They're taking a moment to step back so they can see just how awesome they look in PRISMACOLOR!

It's awesome, and I really like the background - it makes the piece more unique than a dark background would.

That look sweet! the only thing I can find a bit off is Megs' Fusion cannon, it should be darker than the rest of his body. You do amazing work with markers!

Thanks so much! You're right about the fusion cannon. I should have ignored the reference I was looking at (Some IDW stuff) and gone with what I know. I probably would not have whinged so much about Megs being "boring!" then, eh? Thanks for both the compliment and the crit.
(I might be able to fix it, actually..... )

I'm very impressed by what you can do with your markers, and I'm interested to see how you'd do with a digital coloring tool.
And those faces certainly don't make me think of "dancing". They're a little too serious.

It DOES kinda look like they're dancing... As for "within the Matrix," it does work with the blue-ey background -- it reminds me of the crystal portion of the Matrix.
Excellent coloring job! You do such a good job... I'm rather jealous. My coloring consists of scribbling, heh....
