Description
Is...is this a job for human rights activists or for PETA?Okay, this is something that has bothered me for years, and in all sorts of medium.
So I'm furnishing my little Animal Crossing cottage, right? But I don't know if I'm comfortable with keeping a caged canary (which is a furniture item) in the window when my next-door neighbor is a talking, four-foot-tall robin.
It's the same thing in what was one of my favorite childrens's show, Arthur , too. He's got a little pet dog, but one of his best friends is also a dog. And it happens again with Goofy and Pluto of the Disney universe; both are dogs, but they live in different castes of domestic hierarchy. What is this?
And when you encounter this sort of thing at such a young age, it's...I don't know, it's just crippling.

I've always wondered that! xD And whenever you catch a frog in the little ponds, you can give it to a frog character and they'll put it in their room. Kinda weird.

Talking animals are allowed to have non-talking animals as pets. It's a well known fact of nature and the animal kingdom and other natural type stuff....

Well, people keep pet monkeys in India, and it's kind of the same thing... What I'm wondering, though; what do people in the pokemon world actually EAT? Are there invisible animals no-one's actually noticed? Are they all vegans? Or do they, as was suggested by the fact that Farfetch`d actually carries its OWN GARNISH, EAT POKEMON? One pikachuburger coming right up!

Well let's think of it this way, they're a lower life form. If human's rights activists weren't so uppity you could probably keep a midget as a pet.

Holy cow, you're right!
I never realised this. Dogs owning dogs. Maybe it was something conjured up by the writers. Or just the stereotypical dog as a pet thing. But, did you ever see a pet cat?

In a few episodes of House of Mouse, they showed cartoons that all involved different animals.
A baby seal.
Kittens.
One cat.
Other dogs.

But then again, such absurdities will only damage our brains if we over-analyze them.

The moose was Art Garfunkel?! As in, SIMON AND GARFUNKEL?! Holy crap!
I never watched Arthur much, but I hear the early episodes were best. I just read the Arthure short stories at school.
Muffy was HELL to watch.
This is like the Page of Childhood TV Show Reminiscence. Weird!

This, my freinds is the 'is there an afterlife?' of animation. It will probably NEVER be solved, it's always been with us, and it'll probably never leave.
The more recent incarnations of the anthropomorphic animals with pets dilemma include Camp Lazlo and, of course, My Gym Partner's a Monkey. These two shows, specifically MGPaM, blur the line between your typical humanoid cartoon animals and 'animals' so badly that it almost makes your brain bleed.
There's one episode of Gym Partner in particular is enough to induce a hemmhorage. In it, Jake (the monkey in question) inexplicably finds a new parrot freind and names him 'Orlando'. Now, 'Orlando' acts like a typical REAL world parrot, repeating the phrase "pretty bird" and pecking at shiny things. Meanwhile, the show has EXPLICITLY shown that a student in the school's 'advanced class' is ALSO a parrot! And, oh yeah, humans also exist in this world too.. now you may start bursting blood vessels in your brain while trying to sort THIS one out.

I always thought of it being like this: their just different species. Like how chimps are VEEERRRYYY similar to humans, but not. We are not mutated chimps, are we? For instance, Nekos and cats are VEEEERRRYYY similar, but Nekos are mainly humanoid, cats are not. ......Or you could say their mutants... but I like the idea of different species bettar

NYAA! Now that you point it out, it is very unnerving. It's like...it's like the animals were born with CONSIDERABLY different intelligence and acumen levels as well as body structures and/or never mutated into a humanoid sort of form...type thing. In Animal Crossing I wonder what would happen if you were to put that four foot robin in a cage-- Would it revert to it's unmutated state e.g canary? Or would it stay the same? Great, now you've got me thinking...but even so-- isn't that a bit like animal abuse? Some animals get treated like cra-- I MEAN pets while others roam streets, go to school, and have houses. It's pretty crazy, yes yes...
Back to the artwork! I like the whole concept of it. The mutated/modified animals disgusted by the pet. Heh. Definite fav.
