Description Is...is this a job for human rights activists or for PETA?

Okay, this is something that has bothered me for years, and in all sorts of medium.
So I'm furnishing my little Animal Crossing cottage, right? But I don't know if I'm comfortable with keeping a caged canary (which is a furniture item) in the window when my next-door neighbor is a talking, four-foot-tall robin.

It's the same thing in what was one of my favorite childrens's show, Arthur , too. He's got a little pet dog, but one of his best friends is also a dog. And it happens again with Goofy and Pluto of the Disney universe; both are dogs, but they live in different castes of domestic hierarchy. What is this?

And when you encounter this sort of thing at such a young age, it's...I don't know, it's just crippling.

I've always wondered that to. I guess the only explanation is that the writers or whoever were on crack :/

It's true that this kind of animal universe is sometimes disturbing...when I watched Arthur or other shows like this, I just said myself that pets were unevolved comparde to the other people.

Now that I think about it... that IS interesting. I SUPPOSE if you made a time machine, told your neighbors about it, went back and got the pet from a time before they would could walk on two legs and they were ok with it... and, of course, that you didn't screw up the future of all talking animals because you took an ancestor of theirs... I geuss that would work.

Problem solved through the power of time travel!

...Unless I'm mistaken...

it's simple. it's about creating a normal world in abnormal environment. part of a normal world is pets(normal pets, like dogs and birds...). the problem only occurs when the abnormal(cartoon) world is inhabited by anthropomorphic characters. then you have the issue you've brought up. i wouldn't bother about it. just do whatever you want. not like your pixelated neighbor has feelings.

omg, that sounds like me and my thoughts of time travel... it was the question of, if you went back, then that time came forward from the time you went from, would you still be going back in time? like, is there more than one past? i was kinda screwed up as a kid...

That comes up alot in the world of Anthrophiles. There are other similar questions, like, if the Rescue Rangers wear clothes (as do many others), how come nobody notices? Chip and Dale also interact with both humans and Anthros (Donald Duck especially, as well as (more canonically) Darkwing Duck). So where is Duckburg on the Eartharian map, hmm?

Do anthros have human pets? Do they make them wear (shudder) sweaters? If an anthro beats a human pet, do you contact the humane society or PETA? Or do you just draw pictures of it and sell them at shifty auction sites.

yer this is true. However, I suppose some people just view it as ok as they aren't human. If you tried to do a human as the pet, people would go mental trying to prevent it.

in Gregory McGuires book, 'Wicked', there are 'animals' and 'Animals' (note the capital letter). animals are the tiny ones we keep as pets, and Animals are the ones that can walk and talk like us. apparently they're pronounced differently, but who knows?

I like how you question the logic of video games. It's your motto or something! I heard someone say that Pluto was sold into slavery by Goofy so he could talk and walk. I also wonder what would happen if the cow character or pig character caught you eating a burger or bacon. "MOM!" Or something horrible like that. That would ruin your little friendship I imagine.

haha, you're so right. I've never made all of these connections with Arthur and whatnot, except for the Pluto and Goofy one. I realized that at one point and was so confused. Mickey's pet and best friend were both dogs, how could he stand treating them in such different ways? lol.
