Description
Is...is this a job for human rights activists or for PETA?Okay, this is something that has bothered me for years, and in all sorts of medium.
So I'm furnishing my little Animal Crossing cottage, right? But I don't know if I'm comfortable with keeping a caged canary (which is a furniture item) in the window when my next-door neighbor is a talking, four-foot-tall robin.
It's the same thing in what was one of my favorite childrens's show, Arthur , too. He's got a little pet dog, but one of his best friends is also a dog. And it happens again with Goofy and Pluto of the Disney universe; both are dogs, but they live in different castes of domestic hierarchy. What is this?
And when you encounter this sort of thing at such a young age, it's...I don't know, it's just crippling.

The Pluto thing: I've known this for many years, yet I'm only 12.
Does that make me an antichrist?...Because I just got into the religion when I was 4 or 5...
Anyway, enough of my rambling. What I really like about this pic is the look of disgust on their faces. It doesn't just say "OMG THAT'S SICK!", but "OMG THAT'S SICK...AND I'M DAMN WELL OFFENDED!"
I enjoy your art verily.

Touching up on Pluto: MICKEY NAMED HIS FREAKIN' DOG AFTER THE FREAKIN' GOD OF THE UNDERWORLD (alternative name to Hades).

Actually, it was named in honor of the (once) planet (which indeed was named after the god) because the Pluto character was released the year Pluto was discovered by Percival Lowell (1931).

I suppose if you put intentions before origins it's fine 'n' dandy. >.> I still think it's funny that Mickey's dog has the same name as the Roman/Greek (I mix them up all the time) god of the dead in the end.

I wondered about it too, actualy-- but maybe it's only bizzare from a misinformed human perspective, and to the Arthurians and Goof troop and whoever it's like the difference between a person and a rhesus monkey. Some people, maybe a lot of people, will say that a rhesus monkey's a person too-- but not that many people really believe that monkeys and chimps are as MUCH of a person as a human. I guess there are lower levels of dogs in dog-worlds, too.
Though I remember Arthur. An anteater owning a dog- wouldn't it make just as much sense for him to be owning a monkey or a pig?

Whoa comments on this picture are funny... I stopped after the first page or I would have been going forever! My mum always denied Goofy being a dog, cause when I was about seven I noticed him and Pluto both were. Good way to get your point noticed, through art. Its v cool btw, I love the trees... And the mail box reminds me of Blue's Clues!

Think of it this way: It's a kind of refelction on the deep phycological workings of the human mind. After all, we can class people by putting them in boxes, de-humanize them and therefore seemingly justify un-named horrors to them, hold ourselfs as higher then certain other people, despite the fact that we have no idea who they are or what amazing gifts they share in common with us, etc.
...sorry.

Yes that has always bothered me too I remember sitting watching shows and complaining because it was just retarded, a lot of things bottered me as a child animals with pet animals and the reasoning behind superheros, I just couldn't understand why Batman had to have nipples on the bat suit and why spiderman had web coming from his wrist and not his butt, ah he reasoning of a child.

It's been brought up before, many times. It's odd, it's sometimes enforced (check Christopher Hart's how-to-draw books), but it's normal in a fictional world with talking animals.
