Description
For the poll species contest is holding. Task: create a species of which traits are defined by different polls. This took me way too long. >:C I tried out a slightly more detailed shading with this one, I think it looks rather neat. I also combined speedpainting (base) and airbrushing (first serious attempt here). I should keep this style and improve on it more since it looks nice.
I just got an idea: putting all of my species together in one picture, showing them in their natural habitat. Would be an awesome idea for a contest, too.

This is just for the contest judges, so the artist's comments technically end here.
traits marked with
First Choice: Random! They sleep and roam whenever they please and have no rhythm! [prefers night here, though]

Moar creatures!
You have been very creative lately!
This creature looks awesome, I love the skin pattern and those little claws under the chest. And glowing tail for the win!
Good luck in the contest!

I wish all good luck with it - although I am pretty sure you don't need any luck to create awesome pictures with it.

Interesting 8D I particularly like the idea of venom in the saliva; that's quite an effective way to use venom, and it seems less common in invented species than venom delivered through fangs...

I think that a special real species has venomous saliva... Not sure which though. I thought it'd be interesting to equip this species with such a trait since one of the demanded traits were a sticky tongue. Thanks!

You're welcome! ^^ Perhaps you're thinking of the komodo dragon? Or the short tailed shrew. I have some experience with that one xD Honestly didn't know it was venomous... x]

yeah possibly it was one of the animals you just mentioned. that knowledge is somewhere in my head but I just gotta dig it out

Canis-ferox In reply to hail-the-oblivious [2010-06-13 16:36:51 +0000 UTC]
Lol xD I bet it was the komodo. It's not technically venomous, but its saliva contains so much bacteria that it might as well be xD The short-tailed shrew is a lesser-known north american thing; I thinki it's our only venomous mammal. It's got a neurotoxin. ALthough since it's meant to paralyze things smaller than the shrew itself, it's harmless to larger creatures. It's just painful. xD

yeah, now that you mention it, could be. I suddenly remember all of this now that I read it here in your comment
I used to be quite interested in animals and such when I was a child. lol Still got some knowledge from that time. But it's fading away as you can see

same here, kinda I guess childhood passions kind of lose effect with time, as you grow up and stuff.
