Description This is a GNOME Shell theme based on the look and feel of the social network website, Google+.

Google+: [link]

Icons: [link]

Wallpaper: Calm by 'elusive [link]

Font: Aller Sans

KDE4 version [link]

Instructions:

Please avoid a manual install and use the GNOME Tweak Tool, it's much easier.

You can use the gnome-shell theme extension for easier switching of themes.

GNOME Tweak Tool

Make sure you have user-theme-extension installed. Load the GNOME Tweak Tool and go to Shell Extensions and click the "Use Theme Extension" switch. Now go to "Theme" and click the Shell Theme box and locate your theme zip. Now you can select the theme in the dropdown box.

License: GPL

Compatibility: GNOME Shell 3.4

+ Icon

To use the + icon in your status menu, just copy the icon I put in the theme directory(user-available-symbolic.svg) to /usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/status. Backup your old icon first. If you are using an icon theme that uses it's own symbolic icons, you'll have to replace their icon.

Update - 1.1 - 4th June 2012

- Minor border radius corrections to some parts of the theme.
- Changed close window button to a cross instead of a plus.
- Fixed focus button, should use Goggle red.
- End session now has a hover button effect for the open apps.

As usual: great work. You are kind of a legend amongst gnome-shell themers, eh?

I'm just having one issue - with almost all themes, the chat bubble popup is... messed up - like 50px wide or something: [link]

Do you have _any_ idea what causes this? Works fine in the default theme. (3.4.1, amd64, ubuntu)

half-left In reply to timorei [2012-06-04 22:04:27 +0000 UTC]

You know, some Ubuntu users say they are having issues with the notifications. I suspect it might be something Ubuntu specific like their own CSS lines for the default theme.

Well thanks.

Not sure what could cause that, maybe just a bug.

Hey, this is really nice. But what about the green buttons? I think the toggle buttons could be green. And the search button could be a little rounded. And about the close button, you might take a hint from the "Take a Tour" guide

half-left In reply to satya164 [2012-06-04 06:07:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Really couldn't fit the green button anywhere, the colour needs to be in splash rather than blocks on the theme. Didn't know about that Take a Tour.

Google has a nice skinning of their website, it is great that you came up with this. how about the icons? did you make a modified one?

Thanks. I just converted the icons from that site for the theme, since they fit.

whoOo...that would be great. Before, I was really hoping that someone will make this theme. I find Google design really awesome and then you brought it to reality. Can you take us to the screenshot where the icons are on the move? Btw, Do you have a plan for bringing this to Unity?

half-left In reply to ccs1332 [2012-06-04 02:52:14 +0000 UTC]

Possible, as it's a simple light theme like Adwaita. I could foresee no headaches in making GTK3 theme.

sorry, i meant like, is there a possibility that you could do a gtk3 one too?

half-left In reply to ccs1332 [2012-06-04 04:17:48 +0000 UTC]

It's possible but I need to be in the right mind set to tackle it because GTK3 themes can be a real pain to do.

Is window-close a plus symbol on the google site?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

half-left In reply to bimsebasse [2012-06-04 01:38:07 +0000 UTC]

Improvisation, doesn't have to be exact, just feel like the design it's based on.

bimsebasse In reply to half-left [2012-06-04 01:51:10 +0000 UTC]

All good, just feels a bit odd clicking "+" to close something

What about this: [link] (same image, the + just given a 45 degree angle in inkscape)

bimsebasse In reply to half-left [2012-06-04 03:08:23 +0000 UTC]

Haha, what crap reply? Fully understand your need to try new things with GUI elements, it IS kinda boring just putting an x there

This theme is so awesome, been using it for just half an hour and it feels a step up from other themes. I open the calendar just to look at how well put together it is (probably not healthy, no).

half-left In reply to bimsebasse [2012-06-04 03:16:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I just read you wrong, thinking you were talking about the Google + icons I used in the theme preview.

Glad you like it, it's quite a balancing act with this sort of design.

bimsebasse In reply to half-left [2012-06-04 03:21:32 +0000 UTC]

Ah, OK, no, I didn't mean to suggest faenza icons would be better - just the window-close button playing mind games with you because its symbol suggests opening or adding.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

half-left In reply to bimsebasse [2012-06-04 03:24:30 +0000 UTC]

Yep, the metaphor is not good, it was just my thinking at the time, + rather than close.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

half-left In reply to bimsebasse [2012-06-04 01:56:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, probably should be an X, I got carried away with the g"+".

The icons are just for the preview, so if you know anything about importing formats and resizing then it's easy enough. Use the psd and import into The Gimp.

Yeah well, too bad GTK3 is annoying to theme.

dannylh10 In reply to half-left [2012-06-04 00:43:44 +0000 UTC]

Haha! It's all good. Hey, are you the developer of the theme?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

half-left In reply to dannylh10 [2012-06-04 00:45:46 +0000 UTC]

I made the theme yes. GNOME Shell is much easier to theme than GTK3 because it's all nice CSS.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dannylh10 In reply to half-left [2012-06-04 00:53:00 +0000 UTC]

Well, the icons, I'm having a hard time understanding how use them. Can you help me with that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

half-left In reply to dannylh10 [2012-06-04 01:13:46 +0000 UTC]

Open the psd file in The GIMP, resize each one to 256x256, save as a png, name them the apps name and put them in /usr/share/icons/gnome/256/apps(assuming you use the default icon theme)
