Description
The Erish Strider (Gigantolapteryx Erifortis) is the National animal of the nation of Erifort. these massive flightless birds of prey inhabit the nation's rolling planes and have even been seen in Valspire's southern forests. Originally introduced to Erifort by the high elves roughly 4 thousand years ago, Striders quickly dominated Erifort's landscape. once introduced the citizens of Erifort discovered something useful about the striders: unlike horses Striders were predatory animals and didn't scare easily and made fairly decent mounts for domestic and military purposes and eventually replaced horses as suchMale striders stand at roughly 10 feet tall with females being slightly shorter. Striders can come in a variety of colors and patterns however brown seems to be the most common. Striders are monogamous and mate for life; both the male and female work together to build the nest, and then the female lays eggs (2-4 every breeding season) the male remains active hunting and bringing food back to the female who watches over the nest. baby striders are covored in fluffy yellow down and resemble baby chickens.
a strider's foot has two toes, one large inner toe and a smaller outer toe, each armed with a large, hoof like talon. the legs of a strider are incredibly powerful and are capable of delivering devastating kicks that have been known to break stone, this has given striders the nickname of "castle breaker birds". due to their immensely powerful legs striders are capable of running at extremely high speeds with and unburdened male easily reaching speeds of 75 miles per hour and even with an armored soldier on it's back they can still easily keep speeds of 60-65 miles per hour
