Allllllrighty... CHEESSECAKE TUTORIAL!Yes, it's late... meh. xD I've been busy (for once) and just haven't had the time to format and put everything together.
As always, sorry for the watermark and things. I can stop doing that when people become honest and stop stealing. =_=
Also, please don't make them for commercial purposes without my consent because that's just mean. T^T Lastly, the finished deviation will be posted later... plate and all! But, have a try at it yourself first!

Hi great tutorial, my friend sent me here to your site! I can make everything fine it's just the syrups I am having issues with, my question. what type of paint are you mixing into the TLS? what brand and what type paint are you using? When I mixed it with watercolors my brown syrup turned to terrible green. thanks for your help!

that's odd that the watercolor turns it green. O_o
in any case, i don't mix paint into the TLS to make syrups - i use chalk pastels that i've shaved into powder (see the tutorial for mixing pastels into clay for an example) to add color to the TLS because it won't add any water or unnecessary stuff into the clay. if you're going to use paint, i would suggest you use oil-based paints because it won't react with the oil base of the TLS and bubble when you bake it. sorry i can't give you any "good" brands for oil paints, though... i don't use them so i'm not going to assume anything. however, other clay artists have used it successfully, so i don't see why it won't work for you.
and in case you're wondering, i use loew & cornell for my chalk pastels. ^_^ hope that helps!

fabulous as always! will definitely be used
is freezing the "cake" so that it won't be squished when work is continued on it? Or is it just a "cheesecake" thing?

lol the first one. ^_^ freezing clay can sometimes be a little dirty trick to get things to move along faster - it sucks to have put a bunch of work on something only to have it go BLEEEEAAAAHHHHH when you try to cut it. xD

Hello, I have a question.
Why do you say we shouldn't mix paint with the TLS for this project? Is there a specific reason?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
HanaClayWorks In reply to maytel [2008-02-18 01:06:51 +0000 UTC]
only acrylic paints because acrylics are water-based and the TLS is oil based. water and oil don't really mix so what ends up happening is that when you bake it, the water in the acrylics will start to boil and add all these little bubbles into your piece and ruin it. i have heard of people using a small amount of acrylic paint in it and having it turn out OK, but i have no such luck. if you really want to use paint to mix into the piece, use oil paints.

O_O wow
well I heard pastel and i was T^T
I just throw my left over pastel because ..
I am not using them anymore in coloring ..
and they were there for couple of years with no use
now they turn out .. they can be used coloring clay for charms
so to make it clear for me : how do you color them with pastel ?
do you just color them or mix some pastel in the clay or what ?
I am really excited to use pastel in my charms .. since I used aclyrics
and they do form alittle of bubbles and mine aren't that smooth

i do bake my clay - the freezing is just to firm the clay up a little so that i can cut the cake without squishing it into oblivion.

I hope I didn't ask this before, lol.
What all can you color TLS with? Pastels, obviously, but why not acrylics? Because it doesn't bake well? Food coloring? Can you color it with bits of clay?
Thanks!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
HanaClayWorks In reply to SarahRose [2007-11-04 16:12:08 +0000 UTC]
^_^ lol
mmk... well yes, pastels work. you don't want to use acrylics because they are water-based and will bubble. i've tried it before and it just doesn't turn out pretty. i've also tried food coloring with the same results, but i have heard that you can use it and it'll come out fine. i guess maybe i used too much? i'm not sure. you can try it for yourself with a little bit of TLS and food coloring to see if it works for you. ^_^ i know for certain, though, that powdered food coloring works fine.
bits of colored clay also work, but it'll make the TLS thicker than it normally is, depending on how much clay you use to color it. lastly, oil paints will also work because it's oil-based and so will mix well with the TLS (which is also oil-based).
hope that helps! let me know if you want me to clarify anything~

lol a washer is just a little round ring that you can get at the hardware store. it goes around your screws. i'm sure your dad can tell you more about it than i can. xD
here's a wikipedia article on it. ^_^

What kind off clay did you use?
And what's TLC o.o
Thanks x

HanaClayWorks In reply to Ice-Pandora [2007-10-29 13:20:02 +0000 UTC]
i use sculpey III polymer clay. and it's TLS not TLC xD
TLS - translucent liquid sculpey, which is just liquid clay that comes in a bottle instead of a 2oz bar (or whatever)
TLC - a pop group from the nineties; The Learning Channel; Tender Loving Care... etc. lol
sorry... i just had to. *runs and hides*

I'm not sure we got that kind off clay in Holland oops did I said TLC?? sorry! And yes it's that popgroup ^^
What does it do, the TLS? Hmm liquid clay lol

i hear that in Europe, they have liquid Fimo, which is essentially the same as TLS, just a different brand. you might want to take a look to see if that's available at your local shops.
well you can use TLS in a lot of ways. i use it to soften clay for frosting, add color to pastries, and to make sauces, but i'm sure there are lots more uses for it.
