Description Made this chart to assist me with various stuff.

Please note that these are my interpretations of the sizes and that they will thus vary with other, official media. Those typically just do 'whatever' where sizes are concerned anyway, which means there IS no real size convention for any of the media apart from what's an average size. Those tend to be 'default to nearest average'-sizes though and are as such still random.

As far as I'm concerned these are the actual sizes based on logic, concerning character types I might use in my fancomic. Though I might adapt the ones here for logic sake as well (not for convenience) and would then run consistently with that. One example would be Micromasters with large altmodes: those might actually end up being slightly larger than Minibots to allow humans inside (even if cramped, the altmodes need a function).

CITYBOTS
Personally I don't think all Citybots are equal in size. Haven't even included them all in the chart (yet) since it'd get a bit cramped in the image on one hand and because I'm not fully determined to which size convention I'll use for them. For now, XII is a placeholder based on the G1 cartoon.

However, I'll share with you my logic on them and what they'll probably be:

Scorponok for example seems to be more along the lines of a Combiner to Guardian Robot due to his humanoid Headmaster.

However, Fortress Maximus would be a bit larger again (due to cerebros having a robot headmaster for head) and would probably end up on the Omega Supreme scale.

Alternatively, I could run with the Japanese variant of Headmasters and ignore the Nebulons and Rebirth (!), which means they'd be robots not organics; meaning I could scale Zarak to any size I'd want allowing me to use Scorponok on Fort Max size. If both have robots for heads I could make them even larger, but then the headmasters would have to be the size of Optimus or larger, which isn't my intention.

That leaves a few more citybots.

Sizing for Metroplex though would be independent of Metrotitan, as I'd base Metrotitan and Grandus around Micromasters. Metroplex and Trypticon could be based on regular size TFs, which would make them even bigger (note that this sizing would also affect some, but not all of their partners!). So yes, that'd mean Scorponok and Fort Max would not be the same size as Trypticon and Metroplex as each would be scaled on a different type of user. From this the following size comparison follows:

Humanoid race (Scorponok/Fort Max) -> Micromaster (Grandus/Metrotitan) -> Normal size (Metroplex/Trypticon).

Als note that Grandus will have no direct sizing relation to Star Convoy, even though the toy allows them to link up in 'vehicle mode'. IMO though a truck pulled aircraft carrier of humongous size is silly and wouldn't work. Grandus works better as a semi-subsurface base of operations.

Seems reasonable. Any thoughts on where you might place the average Maximals and Predacons on this scale?

I gotta use this at some point, yet I didn't see a combiner scale, but they r sometimes different in size. I also bet u couldn't scale unicorn, it'd be 12 feet tall of paper

When I conceived of what the actual size of citybots like Metroplex and Fortress Maximus would be, I imagined transformers as big as mountains.  Wouldn't they have to be that large to comfortably house dozens and dozens of transformers 20ft tall or more?  What's the point of even calling them citybots if they're not at least the size of a large base for transformers?  Sadly, transformers has always been plagued by scale issues.  They seem to 'magically' add size and mass in some of their modes.  But, honestly, a citybot would need to be thousands and thousands of feet tall - miles high.  The only piece of art that is within a shadow of that concept is this picture circa 1987 - found on the back of the transformers bought in that era (think Headmasters, Monsterbots, Targetmasters, etc.)  At least in this picture you get to see how citybots would have to fight - in space. They are so enormous if they were constrained by Earth's gravity they'd be incredibly slow (and destructive): botchthecrab.com/gallery/box_b…

I know this is old, but this popped up on a search. I don't know if you've updated this sense, but Optimus Prime from Generation One is offically 6m or about 20ft tall. Also, cassettes were always shown to be about human sized. Most of the G1 autobots came in around 12-15ft based on the size of Prime, Bumblebee would have been about 7-9ft based on his size compared to humans and the others.

I only posted this because I saw other people had asked about sizes in feet and trying to figure out where they would fit on your chart.

Late reply, but I read somewhere that Jazz is 26ft, and seekers 28ft.
Bumblebee is anywhere between 7ft and 15ft.
Does this help?

Where would Unicron be? Where would Primus be?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hansime In reply to MikeG360 [2013-01-22 00:06:01 +0000 UTC]

Well if we'd follow the cartoon, Primus is pretty much moon size in planet mode. That would actually make him bigger than Unicron, who in is Cybertron size in robot mode, which tends to be three, four times bigger. Unless of course, most of Cybertron would be a shell. >.>

Consider though that the spaceship in the movie that went through Unicron's eye was pretty big in relation to Transformers, but only as tall as the height of the Unicron eye... So... you could try to make some sort of extrapolation from that, but it'd be really tricky.

Comics... Don't even go there, but UK G1 had some ideas about Unicron's size in relation to the Junkions (who would be "Normal G1 size")...

Beldarius In reply to hansime [2018-04-01 16:06:36 +0000 UTC]

I guess a reasonable estimate would be that Unicron and Primus are so big, even one of their legs wouldn't fit in that picture.

Scale is really not something you want to think too hard about with Transformers. Especially not buildings and cities and so on.

Around what size what you say, 15 feet would be? I was thinking V or VI for Darkwing. I figured 10 ft would be III or V, at least. Still not sure

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hansime In reply to frillyfins [2012-08-19 14:53:19 +0000 UTC]

Well an adult human (size 2) is approximately 5 to 6 ft. So approximately triple that size. Somewhere in the middle of the line V-VI sounds about right for 15 ft.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hansime In reply to Xenomaster [2011-10-10 23:18:58 +0000 UTC]

Bigger.

[nerdmode]

If you go by either The Movie or Marvel UK comics, there are some references. Typically the leader size is smaller than Unicron's mouth, but the head itself ends up being depicted as not that big. Yet at the same time, a spaceship full of G1 and leader sized Transformers fits through Unicron's eye in The Movie, where the spaceship is about 8-10 times bigger than a normal TF iirc.

The latter, larger version would be more logical for a planetbot. But probably bigger wouldn't be very odd either. Then again, Cybertron and Unicron don't seem to be that big in respect to the Earth, judging from that episode where Cybertron was depicted as roughly moon-sized. Meaning Primus would be at least 2.5 to 3 times the diameter of the moon upon folding everything out (see Cybertron Primus toy). Meaning Primus would be approximately 10 km tall.

Ergo: neither would fit on this chart.

I remember seeing this in an old Decepticon club....did they get your permission? Not the , the other one.
With these charts I remember getting frustrated when people ket saying Megatron was 52 feet high or something even though I remember Skyfire/Jetfire being 38ft.
As a general rule I tend to say Seekers and mechs like Jazz are 26ft, while Leaders are 32ft.

Apart from the Casettacons being a tad tall in this I found this graph to be increadibly helpful. If only metres and feet were converted but that's very subjective.
Sorry about the ramble.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hansime In reply to nightshade43 [2011-09-05 11:38:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I didn't state the exact sizes in feet/metres on purpose, since the whole chart is quite subjective. The most important thing to me is that proportions in relation to other robots all in all make more rather than complete sense.

Cassettes for instance I believe I based those more on Soundwave and Blaster as "normal G1" size than anything else. As a consequence they are a tad bigger than some other people might have them. Of course this is entirely subjective.

Btw thanks for the heads up on usage. I have given permission to a few clubs and forums to link/post to it. As long as they gave credit for the maker and/or it links back here, it's quite fine with me. All in all I'm surprised at how often it has been viewed and downloaded and quite happy that so many people found it helpful.

Ha this is what I was looking for! Now I have proof to my raves about how much of an oxymoron an OC is if they are small and petite triple changing animalistic robots in disguise!(<--- can't stand stories with those kind of OC's Dx)

hansime In reply to sasayakibara [2011-08-02 11:12:09 +0000 UTC]

lol

It is still only a guide and open to your own interpretation.

If the altmodes are small, a triplechanger is possible for a small animal, but yeah, a robot + bunny turning into an interstellar transport generally does not work that well.

I've seen some cringeworthy OC's before alright. :/ Very hard to hold back (especially if you have Sky Lynx as character ).

Though I've got more issues with the Mary Sue and Gary Stu types. You know, those that turn Decepticons with the power of love or try to take over the Decepticons even if there are people with high ranking, official characters in the RP... >__<

Ahh yes I hate that Dx I don't like anyone changing sides ever! It's so confusing unless it's Animated Shockwave or Sideways in pretty much any series. If people are going to love Decepticons they must love them as they are not turn them Autobot =__="
