Description
I must summit this as soon as possible before the new Hobbit movie comes out in December I want to be the first one to picture out what Smaug will look like. This is a visualization of what Smaug the Dragon will look like, in the upcoming movie The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug. Many individuals like myself wonder what the dragon will look like, so I did a lot of research, watching trailers, movies and came up with the conclusion that Smaug WILL look like this. there has been many fan-art regarding Smaug, but they are not accurate towards the 2013 movie. If you want to know what Smaug will look like, here you go.
If you don't believe me, here is one of the websites I found some information on regarding his appearance.

This drawing isn't suppose to win any competition regarding quality and detail, just a standard figure of what the character will look like. details on the Dragon are below.
1. He is going to be portrayed as a Wyvern. a legendary winged creature with a dragon's head, which may be said to breathe fire or possess a venomous bite, a reptilian body, two legs (sometimes none), and a barbed tail. At first when the first Hobbit movie was released in theatres Smaug was a Four legged Dragon then was changed on the DVD. This is why Smaug was never seen in any of the scenes because the developers were not sure how to create him.
2. His wings are going to be very long and have a very long tail, and his wings will have the ability to retract into his arms much like a bat, if that makes any sense.
3.Seeing that trailers many times for the Desolation of Smaug you can barley make out that Smaug has either two or three claws instead of one, like the dragons from Reign of Fire not Skyrim.
4. much of what the rest of him I have to use common sense, like were the scales end on the neck, or how big the legs are seeing his actual size.
What do you Think. Any suggestions if anyone looks at this... or cares. much is appreciated. show your friends.

I was very disappointed when I saw the movie and it proved real that they made him a wyvern. Besides Tolkien's drawings and description I think they took a dragon's uniqueness and I think it's sad that with all the modern filming technology, they seem to be unable to make a proper 6-limbs dragon.
And for those who say Smaug looks realistic with only four limbs - yes, realistic by standards of this world. But if there's some fantasy realm where it is possible for creatures like dragons to exist, it is the realm's reality. If the movie was more realistic, there would be no giant spiders, great eagles or ancient elves. And also.... when I tried to imagine a realistic dragon, I ended with a pterosaur. Unique creatures are one of the aspects that make fantasy what it is.
Rest in the stars Draco, it seems the true dragons died with you....
After ruining Smaug, I'm afraid what will PJ do with Temeraire dragons o.O

So it's true. PJ is working on the series of Temeraire? I herd of rumors but didn't think they would do it. However I trust that he will not F#$%K up the Series of Temeraire... he can't. maybe the characters, acting, certain scenes, but not the dragons.

Well... I am afraid that he will f*!K up the dragons. It seems to me that the directors always hire artists who have never read the original stories or have never seen a classic western-type dragon.
Well, I tried to draw some dragons from Temeraire's world, if you see them, please tell me what you think. I know I'm not the best, but still...
Anyway, you have an awesome profile pic. :-D HTF forever :-D

Now that I think about, the directors do seem to hire good artists that only create things using there impute, or the directors. I think they should invite Naomi Novik over to the production office for some tea and pastries to go over the different breeds, just to be fare. I listened to the audio books so I strongly recommend that they invite over Simon Vance as well to go over which actor should play the important roles.
My impute into what the dragons should look like has always been about realism. Temeraire and the imperials should look something like the front cover of the book 'Victory of Eagles, and crucible of gold', also check out SeaSuds versions of the dragons.

I did also see you versions and thought they were lacking detail but some-what accurate. I don't know how long ago you did those but it looks as if you used some sort of crayon or what ever. still good.

I've been keeping hope they find some way to give him arms, since they said awhile back a T-rex would be used for some inspiration. So maybe they are just really small.

I hope not, i'm sick of dragons getting portrayed as wyverns by hollywood dunces.

I definitely agree. We need to have more movies and TV shows with proper magical dragons, but the main reason for why they are portrayed as wyverns these days, is because it is realistic. If dragons did exist, they would be wyverns, much like bats, birds, and flying squirrels. It would be too complex for evolution if it had created a supremely large reptile, with arms, legs, and wings. The tail would also be a movable appendage.

Unfortunately I think this is fairly accurate. The movie smaug will have wings and legs, no arms. This is a clear contradiction ot JRRT's intent as he did seveal drawings of smaug - wall with 6 limbs (2 legs, 2 arms, 2 wings).

pj said smaug is going to have front and back legs, walking on all fours, plus wings (6 limbs)
you can see the mumber of claws when he is entering erebor in the first movie, as he puts his hand on the entrance
you can see that he has front legs when he is entering erebor in the first movie, while he is trampling the dwarves

True, but that was before the remade version of the movie. The developers didn't know what they wanted him to look like so they made him on all fours, and on winged arms. on the website I put in the description you can see the differences between versions. also in the new trailers for The Desolation of Smaug you can barley make out that Smaug doesn't have four legs, but instead has winged arms, much like a bat.
When I first saw the first Hobbit movie in theatres, I was a little disappointed to see that Smaug had a European Dragon style. But as time went on it made a little bit more sense, on why they didn't show him completely.
Thanks for your Feedback.
