Actually, notes aren't that private. Besides various problems in the past, there's been numerous exploits every few months that include the note system. ALSO: The deviantART administrators can and do read your notes,

Thanks for the tips. Although I already recommended to remove the notes periodically (they can be cached even when you remove them) I knew about dA's security failures and the fact the admins can read notes, but I didn't mention them as potential examples about why is better to prevent this system (or remove the notes). I'll update the tutorial mentioning them

You should just tell them to take it to a chat. Someone once got into the note system awhile back and posted things publicly.

Yes, only if you unset them as friends the icons won't display (I forgot to put this in the tutorial).
