Description
For 's "A Pony's Hobby" contest!I once had a silly idea that the ponies with bubble cutie marks were secretly sea ponies* and so... Yeah! Here's Derpy in sea pony form blowing bubbles.
* Inspired by kelpies? Or maybe skin-shedders like selkies? Or just me being weird? Who knows!

I am looking forward to it. A fresh start with new secondary and background characters!
It's a good point though: maybe Derpy will be a canon secondary character from the start! I'd like that.

It would explain so much!
Heh, there's a whole story here -
Ditzy Derpy Doo used to be a sea-pony. She lived a simple life, and everything was pretty much okay.
But something was missing in her life ... until she met a very special stallion. But that stallion didn't have fins, nor could he breath under water. Derpy was too shy to show herself to the stallion - after all, she and him were so very different! Not to mention that, of course, sea pony law stated that no outsiders must ever know of the sea-pony tribe!
Derpy was desperate. She'd found her true love --- and wouldn't be allowed to pursue it.
Derpy cried, many many sea-pony underwater tears, until one of the elder sea ponies took pity and told her --- there was one way she could be with her stallion.
Seeking out the most ancient of magics of the sea pony tribe, she was transformed into a beautiful winged land-pony, and she could finally be with her stallion!
She would never be able to return, but that was okay. She couldn't fly very well, it had something to do with the air-pressure being different above than underwater that made her eyes act all wonky. But that was okay, too.
Because they had a beautiful unicorn-filly and named her Dinky, and they lived happily ever after.
THE END.
"Wow, mummy, were you really a sea-pony?"
"What!? How did you find out? Who spilled the sea-beans?"
"Uh, I mean--- O-o-of course not! Land-ponies aren't real, everyfishy knows that!"
"Uh, I mean ponies aren't real --- Err, I mean sea-ponies aren't."
"GASP! Are you secretly a goverment spy?"
"GASP!! They know! I knew they come one day to take me away from my little filly! Oh no!"
"...How could you work for them, Dinky? How could you take your mummy away from her little muffin?"
"Mo-om!"

Heh, I only now noticed that your drawing here was part of a contest as well.
Funny how one contest-entry inspired another for a different contest entirely.

But yes, domino effect of contest entries!

It happens, sometimes.
It's fun to write quick little things like this , because anything more complex, and my inner perfectionist kicks in and things start getting complicated to write.
In a total of 2.5 years since I've started writing MLP-fiction, I only have one story published (nine chapters and still going), and only one other coming up "soon"(*)
*"soon" being a relative term.
I've got other ideas (some small, some medium-sized) sometimes that I take notes on, but I'm always focussed on doing either "Daring Do and The Secret of the Fourth Wall " or "Pinkieviduality".
But hey, one day in the indeterminate far off distant future I may get to tell the story of "Fluttertree".
"Fluttershy got turned into a tree. But that's okay, her friends are there to support her. It'll wear off. Probably."

This is really really adorable, and well drawn. The coloring good, (especially the fades giving it a good sunshine/underwater look) and nice transparency effects on her flippers. I also like her spirally tail. Nice touch having the bubble pattern look like her cutie-mark. I adore this!

Ah, thank you!
I was originally going to go for a more solid flipper design like the toys had, but it looked kind of weird so I designed my own. Glad to know that's gone down well!

Yeah, I can kinda sea (pun) the MLP toy influence with the tail. Very cute overall.
I think they should bring back the sea ponies. (They brought back the breezies, after all.) Though, they sort've did in that one MLP children's book. (That had nice artwork.)

Thanks!
And yeah, lots of people want sea ponies back, and plenty of people would like flutter ponies to return, too. Hasbro seems more happy to bring back G3 than G1 though. (Not that I actually mind G3, it had some good stuff, but still.)

Beau-Skunk In reply to HareTrinity [2014-05-07 03:36:06 +0000 UTC]
I heard it was because they lost the rights to some of the G1 names, and such. They did manage to bring back a few G1 things like Applejack, and Spike. (Wouldn't mind some of the old villains like Tirek returning to, but like new/modernized versions of them. Kinda like the TMNT villains.)
The Breezies, and Rarity's brief bit with butterfly wing are a li'l like the Flutterponies though. I think the Breezies might've been based off them.
