Hearth had been uneasy all night. Spite activity had picked up, and when his family lived on the outskirts of Wynsiph and the nova tree's protection, that was an important detail to note. He hadn't mentioned it though. Everyone had been so excited for the Warptide festivities, he didn't want to dampen their fun. It seemed like everything would be alright. Ignis was excited for her first Warptide, bouncing up and down as they prepared to leave the house. Hearth's heart was warmed by such unadulterated glee.

And then he looked up and saw the two yittles standing outside. His heart dropped. Behind them he could see more spites. He heard knocking on the walls, and knew they had to get out of there. Grabbing Ignis and Nebula, he ran out the front door, taking flight immediately. The moon was bloodred. What was going on?

He was fortunate to have found Kiki and her siblings fleeing from the spites too.

As soon as they entered the town, the cause of the strange spite attack was immediately obvious. At the center of town, a massive deelagun was wrapped around the nova tree. Even from where they were, the group could see the citizens of wynsiph buzzing around to fight the beast. Kiki ran to join the fight, leaving Hearth to guide the rest of the group to safety.

A brief encounter with Alice lead them deeper into town towards a home that was accepting those who were forced to flee and couldn't fight.

"Should be straight up ahead," Hearth murmured, pointing to the house at the end of the street. Inside, they could see many figures moving around.

"Oh thank Chii," Coco, Kiki's brother, sighed. "I don't think I could go on for much longer." Coco had always been sickly. The adrenaline pumped escape from the forest probably did not benefit his health.

As they walked, Hearth took a glance back toward the center of town. They could see it clearly from here. That huge deelagun perched on the tree. Chii, it was bigger than anything Hearth had ever read about. He began to think about Kiki. She'd run to the fight without a second though. She had always been so brave, ready to take on any challenge in life. Hearth had always hesitated, always fled. He found himself brought back to his days as a wyngling when his friend Orken had brought him into the woods for a stroll. They were attacked by a feral wyngro, and Orken had been pinned. Hearth had run because he was too small and weak to fight.

What excuse did he have this time.

"Do you think they'll have anything to eat there? We couldn't pack any supplies before we left," Coco's worrying interrupted Hearth's ruminations.

"I'm sure. You guys will be safe in there.." Hearth responded, thoughtfully.

"Why'd you say that like that?" Coco asked, turning a concerned gaze towards Hearth.

The quad didn't answer him, instead saying "Keep the girls in your sight, Coco. Make sure everyone stays together."

"Wait, Hearth you're not going to go and fight are you? Hearth, I need you here!" But Coco's pleas were to the thin air. The simple quad had spread his wings, effortlessly taking to the skies.

He'd gotten his family to safety. Now it was time to join the fight. He hadn't saved his house, but he'd be damned if he wouldn't try to save his home.
