HarmonicSonic — Request - Above stereotypes

Description I tried to keep this as politically correct as possible, so please try not to take offense if I have made any mistakes.

This was a request by a fellow deviant who doesn't like seeing stereotypes applied to different sexualities. (This isn't entirely meant to be a "pride" stamp, but you are free to use it that way, of course). It was originally only going to cover gay and straight, but I decided to expand on it a little to include some of the other more commonly-seen sexualities (I hope the deviant who requested this stamp won't mind). I know I didn't include everything, and if you're in a group not mentioned here, I'm sorry - this stamp is already very long as it is and I didn't want to make it too huge.

Anyway, if you want people to know that you will not stereotype them on the basis of sexual orientation, then please feel free to use this stamp.

On a side note - no bashing other groups here. That's not what this is about. Negative comments towards any sexuality community (gay, straight, bi, ace, whatever) will be flagged as spam.

I really love this. I do know people of most of the above noted sexual orientations, and feel bad for the stereotypes that often come with the title.

I love this stamp. One day, I hope people can understand sexualities for what they are. I know many (specifically) homosexual people and everyone believes the lesbians are attracted to EVERY female and all the gay men are in love with every man. It really isn't like that at all. I'm Pan myself-and I usually just get told it means I'm bi but too scared to admit it.

Thanks. I live in the deep south (where religious extremism runs rampant), and the hypothetical question is often posed to me, "what if a gay man makes a pass at you?" Being asexual, I calmly answer that I would refuse him the same way I would refuse a straight woman. It's always so fun to watch the reactions.

Ah, well it's good that you've been strong through it all. I have a friend who lives in the south as well-her being a lesbian and no one close really accepting it has caused a bit of a rough strain on her I'm afraid.
Haha as long as there is fun to it

The irony of it all is that I myself am a Christian - my dad's even a pastor. So I guess in that sense it makes it a little easier for me to help others understand how to deal with issues like this.

Also...according tot he link an ACE is...well
Just like everyone who wants to be in a good relationship.
So how an Ace is different from...a Bisexual or heterasexual is something I don't get, too.
The site says an Asexual person wants more out of a relationship then just sex...that's a lot of us. So I guess all the 40 year old single women are Ace's, then.

BUT...then again it could be wrong wording on the sites part.

HarmonicSonic In reply to LiensriiLovely [2011-02-17 14:09:51 +0000 UTC]

Asexual is just what it sounds like - an asexual person doesn't feel sexual attraction to anyone. An ace may or may not be interested in a romantic relationship (keeping in mind that romance and sex are not the same thing). I guess the best way to explain it would be to compare it to some of the other major ones.

Heterosexual = opposite sex
Homosexual = same sex
Bisexual = both sexes
Asexual = neither sex

I'm an asexual man. I don't feel sexual attraction to women. It so happens I don't feel sexual attraction to other men, either.

Glad to help. And like I said, for understanding pansexuality, your best bet would probably be to talk to someone who actually is pansexual.

It means not being sexually attracted to either gender/anyone.

I love this stamp. I can't stand how people can be so narrow minded, especially those who are a part of the sgba community.

Also, high-five fellow asexual Christian Sonic fan (or which ever order it makes the most sense)!

LOL! I'm actually not a Christian nor am I a sonic fan. LOL.
But I'm still not aware of what pansexual means...From what the wikipedia page said a pansexual person doesn't care what they have sex with which includes species too.

Jillianimal In reply to LiensriiLovely [2011-02-18 17:32:51 +0000 UTC]

I was talking to Harmoinc at that part.

Pansexual's a little harder to explain. It doesn't have to do with interspecies erotica though.

oh okay, good. LOL. I was reading the wikipedia link he posted and iut had mentioned "regardless of gender or species" so I'm thinking...because it's wikipedia it was probably typed by someone who didn't understand what they typed.

After looking up what PAN sexuality is...I';m not sure I like it but maybe you can clarify:
I found this on the wiki link you put on the comments
"is a sexual orientation, characterized by the potential for aesthetic attraction, romantic love, or sexual desire towards people without regard for their gender identity biological sex or species

Ummm...I'm not sure if I understand PAN sexuality but apparently it means you don't care what you're having sex with as long as you're having sex with it. Which mean pedophiles, beastiality(sp), and what have you.

I'm not saying this is true..I'm saying that's how it read on the wikipedia link.....
And if it is true then Pan sexual people need to be imprisoned.
But if it's not true then please explain what Pan means since Wikipedia says it's someone who'll have sex no matter what with what ever. Yuck.

HarmonicSonic In reply to LiensriiLovely [2011-02-17 14:05:59 +0000 UTC]

That's not really the way it is. Pansexuality just means a person doesn't even think about gender. (Some Pans think of themselves as "gender-blind") as opposed to Bisexuality, where a person recognizes genders but is equally attracted to either one. That said, you'd probably get a better answer from someone who actually is pansexual.

You sir/maam are awesome! Too often i feel ashamed to be a human and have to ask myself 'what's wrong with the world? Why can't we all just respect each other and get along?' I am glad you included straight as well! I'm just going to fave this stamp since i don't have a sub with which i can use it. Thank you for this and let's hope all humans can learn to tear down stereotypes one day!

This is awesome. I am glad I saw this. I recently saw a stamp that was promoting stereotypes against homophobes and it was disheartening to think that people in LGBT,pansexual, and asexual communities were stereotyping as well. I think in order to gain understanding and acceptance from others we cannot perpetuate the stereotypes that are out there or make new ones. And I think that goes for all types of social injustices and stereotypes that are out there. Kudos to you for making this and to the person who requested it as well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HarmonicSonic In reply to Necromantic-Deity [2011-02-17 04:14:03 +0000 UTC]

That's one reason I included the straight community in my stamp as well as some of these other groups. Respect has to go both ways. I'm ace, not straight, but I remember seeing the statement made one time that "straight pride is a joke". I was really bothered by that - if a gay, bi, what have you, can be proud of their sexual identity, why can't a straight person? ...But I'm getting on a soap box now. Thanks for the supportive and insightful comment.

would you mind telling me what pan and ace are within this context?

Ace = Asexual [link]

Thanks for expressing an interest. I'm glad you like the stamp. As for making it; yes, I created it with Photoshop 7.0 and animated it with Adobe ImageReady, but stampers use many different kinds of software as well. (The important thing is that the software needs to have the ability to save transparency)
