Description
I know there are folks on this site who think that anyone who blocks someone is automatically just a cowardly wimp. That is not true - the block feature is in place for a good reason, and I think that, overall, it is useful in protecting people from harassment. Unfortunately, there are those out there who abuse the feature (particularly among those who make stamps).Basically, don't just block everyone who disagrees with you. If you make stamps, especially, you should get used to the fact that not everyone is going to agree with your opinion. Learn to listen to different opinions - you might be surprised how much you can learn from them.
Don't just flame and block. Your victim may not be able to respond to you, but they can still report your offensive comment.
In my own case, the people I tend to block are people who continue to make offensive comments after I have asked them to stop, or people with differing opinions who repeatedly insist that I am wrong for my way of thinking, and who will not just agree to disagree.
Edit: I really hate to do this, but for the time being, I'm disabling comments on this one. It's been getting too many comments from deviants just complaining about someone who's blocked them. That's not the point of this. If someone blocks you, just move on. Or complain to someone else. This isn't the place for that.

There is this game where I come to chat, and when I comment in the comments, some guy/girl named AnlenaRarity keeps responding offensive things to me and other people, and she/he doesn't even know how to use proper grammar/spelling!
I tend to make mistakes on both, but I apologize when people correct me, when I correct her/him, she just spams me with useless stuff! … I blocked her and now her friends are spamming me too.

I still remember this:
I was looking for a BMFM art of Throttle's original clothes. found one here after AGES of searching, faved, commented saying that the art is great, and also said that the 2006 version rock because you can find stuff fast as heck.
guess what? the artist said NO for liking a series she hates. I said it was just my opinion, and the 2006 version isn't that bad, and it was a change of an era (Gee even at spyro's change people didn't get that crazy) guess what?
she blocked me and said "I'm crazy and need to see a doctor"
since when people started to force their opinion(s) on others? also the most funny thing...... I didn't say something that feels like "SEE DE FCKING SERES BITCHES!" thing

Yup
probably the most shocking case for me (besides the constant blocking for an honest opinion) was getting instantly blocked after I left a constructive critique under a DD made by a man who was about 50-70 years old! He behave just like a kid... He just said he knows best, that's it.

Long time ago, I've blocked some trolls who were trying to provoke me.
Also, I've been blocked by some user just for stating an opinion in a very politely way.

I only block people if they keep harass/insult/etc me or my friends/belief/etc.
hell, even if I'm debating with someone about Islam (my religion/belief) I only block them if they keep saying bad stuff about Islam even that they KNOW its a lie(s).
but blocking someone just for a different opinion? I mean, I don't block people who likes Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. I don't block people who dislike/hate the 2006 version of BMFM (if you're a old-school original biker mice from mars show, DON'T LOOK FOR IT!) I don't block people who like COD etc etc etc.....

I usually just use it for the creeps who won't leave me alone (( such as asking for where i live, age, picking at me for constant conversations when I say no)) or people that don't know when to stop when I tell them to stop doing something offensive towards me (( nasty comments, notes, etc.)) Otherwise the "reply block" is the only cowardly way to block someone (( unless they fit into the categories above))

" the people I tend to block are people who continue to make offensive comments after I have asked them to stop, or people with differing opinions who repeatedly insist that I am wrong for my way of thinking, and who will not just agree to disagree." this and only this is what the block feature is here for. for keeping you from harassment after you have asked the person to stop. just leaving a nasty comment and blocking to avoid a reply is rude, coward, and just shows you're a douchebag ;/

The only thing I dislike about people blocking others is when they block someone just because they made a comment saying something like "you should look for anatomical referencces" then the deviant is like "STFU IF YOU WON'T SAY SOMETHING NICE DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!!" then block
I have seen it happening.
..Many times.

I recommended someone lower the pricing on their adopts a bit, and they hid the comment immediately after. Only said it because it was low detail adopts for a range of 100-230 points.

I block people who can't stfu. It annoys me when people go on ANOTHER account and have a bitchfit at you as well, then they report you for 'misusing blocking'.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
HarmonicSonic In reply to Kimayri-chan [2013-07-05 20:52:10 +0000 UTC]
I've had that happen to me before, too. If they say they're reporting you, then just shrug it off - it won't go anywhere because there is no such rule about 'misusing blocking' (unless you're blocking a person, unblocking that person to leave a comment, then blocking that person again after commenting, which isn't possible anymore since you have to wait 48 hours after unblocking to block again). As I understand it, you can block up to 500 deviants for any reason. And if someone has done that to you and you can prove it, then you can report that person to the +help desk, because it is against the rules to use an alternate account to get around a block, and that person can be suspended or banned for it.

Well said there. The block feature is there for a reason, and it's purpose is to block any trolls and cyber bullies who spam and harass people for their own sick amusement. But there are also those who abuse their right to block people. And people who do abuse it just go around blocking whoever they please for their own reasons or no reason at all. And that's just wrong.

*sigh* I know the feeling... last week I've had to block one of my watchers because she thinks my way of thinking (which was my opinions of future technology, and I need to let something out) was selfish, even though she pointed out the positive aspects that I do understand. But yeah, saying that I have selfish thinking was a bit harsh, and I tried to reason it with her, but she doesn't seem to want to apologize
I even talked with my family and my closest dA friend about all of it, and they said that she shouldn't have insulted my own opinions, especially that she's one of the popular artists. So I first unwatched her, and after a couple more tries of reasoning, I had to block her (well my mum and sis told me so earlier before), it was hard to do since we had been watchers to each other for about two years, but it was making me uncomfortable and upset really *sigh*
I'm still recovering from it now, especially that my family and closest friends have always been supportive. But still, she should have known better. I hardly block people, I only block some who are trolls or annoying people, mainly as advice
But yeah, I know the feeling. We have to think of what we do before doing the action.
