Description (Words Listed: Judgmental, Rude, Liars, Fractured, Hateful, Homophobic, Old-Fashioned, Manipulative, Tactless, Ill-Tempered, Hypocrites)

First and foremost, those of you who know me know that I myself am a Christian, therefore this is not in any way meant to be an anti-Christian stamp.

As for the description of Christians, know that I did not make up any of it - all of these things were said by non-Christians (and even a few other Christians) when asked what their impression of the Christianity community was. For those of you who remember my last poll, you may have noticed that the highest-voted answer was "Judgmental" - this stayed at the top of the list for the entire time the poll was active. Some of the other terms came from a similar question I posed on Amazon.com's Christianity forum, and from other internet research.

I don't think I have to mention how serious a problem this is, folks. Where are the terms like "Kind, Patient, Generous, Loving", etc.? If people are not seeing those things in us, then we have missed the entire point of God's message. Forgive the strong wording here, but I don't want there to be any mistakes:

If people cannot see our love, then I DO NOT CARE how loving WE may think our methods are. If all people see is hate, rudeness, and judgment, then we are NOT loving them as Christ would.

Now - the likely counterpoints:

"But I AM showing people love by telling them of the danger they're in if they don't REPENT from their SIN!

See the above, big, bold-faced paragraph. Do you really think anybody's going to want to turn from their ways if all they see from the people who HAVE turned from their ways is judgment and hypocrisy? Repentance is important, but if we bring people to God, then HE will show them of the need for repentance. We are supposed to do God's work, not God's job.

But Jesus said the world is going to hate us and persecute us.

I have said nothing about persecution. Persecution is punishment of the innocent. Unfortunately, the listed words are well-deserved. If we truly examine ourselves, not necessarily as individuals, but as a community, we will see that these kinds of terms are not persecution, but justice. Christians today are far too quick to cry persecution.

I know this doesn't apply to all Christians. But consider Jesus's exchanges with the Pharisees - he did not get angry or indignant with the people who were sinners. They were the ones to whom he showed the most love. The times Jesus got angriest was with the Pharisees. And why? Because they were the ones who kept others away from him. Well, my brothers and sisters, there are Christians today who, with their Bible-beating, hypocrisy, and condemnation, are not only blocking people from Christ, but completely driving people away from Christ. As followers of Jesus, if we are to go by his example then we have a responsibility to clean up the mess made by them. Our current way of reaching people is not working - it only leads to division and bitterness. It is time to rethink and remember who we serve.

oml I love this, I am a Christian but that doesn't mean I'm any of these things, however, the majority of the people in my church are really rude

But people, don't automatically think every Christian is like this, not all of them shame others for not being Loyal. It only depends on how close they are to God. Like for example, my mom was having a mental meltdown because of my sister (blood sister, not the one on here) and she needed to hear her mom's voice, but when she called her finally she answered, but guess what my grandma did? She told my mom "I'll talk to you later, I have to go out to service" my mom really needed her mom at the time, and my grandma thinks it's more important to go out to service than to comfort her own child. This just shows how "loyal" most Christians are. They are just so drunk with the bible they don't look into realityΒ

Yeah I may not be able to go to church everyday, nor have I went to church in a long time, but that doesn't mean I'm not a ChristianΒ

I was born in a family of Christians, don't think I'm not one. I was raised a Christian of loyal persons, my mother, and my father. Amen.

Like someone would say that all atheists are arrogant, piece of shit assholes? It’s said that you would view them as these types of negative stereotypes.Β

A wise man man says you must judge a person in the inside, not how they look or what they are.

I guess the way I see it is this, though.Β  The people who don't fit the negative stereotypes need to accept that as long as there are Christians who are "like that", then this is the image all Christians have to deal with.Β  We can either put up with it, or start sending a message to the ones who are "like that" that the rest of us are tired of the problems they're causing.Β  I've come to realize that the time is over for us to be able to simply say "we're not all like that".

It kind of bothers me how some "real" Christian act nowadays. Makes me ashamed, and I feel I'm all alone when it comes to my views. I do think we have to rethink some things. I was raised a Christian, but I stayed a Christian because, yes, I do accept Jesus in my heart. Well, I prefer the New Testament over the old, because I'd rather focus more on the values Jesus teaches. It really gives the whole Religion a bad name. Heck, why would I want to forc- I mean convert someone into Christianity if I know they'll probably refuse and call me a "christard/christfag/whatever lame name they come up with"? In the end, I'd just like to keep faith in God.
oh goodness me. sorry for the wall of text but i had to get it out

Very well then!

It's sad that Christianity is stereotyped so negatively, but I don't always feel this is entirely Christians' fault. Sometimes we do come across as self-righteous/judgmental/bigoted without even trying.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

SakuraWarrirorGirl [2011-10-26 16:47:17 +0000 UTC]

It's only the bigoted Christians who are not 'real christians' right? Christianity is about love and respect but then atheists say they have the right to make fun of us...maybe that's true, but why make fun of others based on their religion or belief's? So I belive in God...I just leave it at that ya know if people ask me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HarmonicSonic In reply to SakuraWarrirorGirl [2011-10-26 21:52:46 +0000 UTC]

Well, I generally try to avoid the "real Christiansβ„’" versus not real Christians mentality (even some of the bigoted ones, in their own twisted way, are often doing what they think is right). All that aside, yes, the bigoted Christians are a problem, but this stamp is addressed to the entire Christian community. Unfortunately, the bigots are a small minority, but they are doing more damage to the cause of Christ with their hateful ways than any atheist ever could. But the silent majority should be speaking out against that kind of approach. A sad truth is that atheists do have a right to make fun of us. No, it's not fair that they do, but we can't change that. We can (and should) consider how Christlike our reaction is to it.

Anyway, I tend to ramble on a lot. Thanks for the fave

Yeah. The bigot Christians are pretty small and I see very few on the internet, have never met a bigot in real life though thank God. Yeah that's the sad part, atheists have a right to make fun of us even if it's morally wrong and cruel but we shouldn't become atheists too just because they make fun of us right?

No prob,I ramble a lot also XD And no prob ^^ It's a cool stamp actually.
