Really, this stamp can apply to anyone, but my target audience is fellow Christians.I'm not saying we should never reference Scripture, because as Christians that isn't a good idea. But I believe it is seriously overused nowadays. Go into any debate (mainly on stuff like evolution, social issues, Israel, and suchlike) with a radical right-wing Christian and you will understand what I'm talking about. (No, I'm not a liberal, but neither am I an excessively conservative extremist). These folks will almost never give any of their own words on a subject. They will only quote verse after verse after verse out of the Bible. That way they can use the ever-so-convenient "You're not arguing with me; you're arguing with God" line.
We're supposed to follow the example set by Jesus, folks. Jesus didn't go around mindlessly vomiting scripture, platitude, and evangelistic clichΓ©s. Sure, Jesus used scripture on occasion, but he also knew how to think for himself. If God wanted us to be machines, he would have made us thus.
Please don't misunderstand my meaning - as I said earlier , Scripture definitely has its place. As Christians, we ought to have a good understanding of it. But many Christians often seem to think of scripture as "ammunition" in a debate. Trust me - using common sense and your God-given intellect will make people far more willing to listen to what you have to say.

Using Scripture as "proof" in a debate with someone who's not Christian just won't work. And people won't care that they're "arguing with God" if they don't believe in Him.

I like this stamp. Even though I'm Athiest.
I'm very open-minded, and I have a lot of Christain friends.
However, I know some Christains that I just want to punch, because they come up to me and literally scream out scriptures from the Bible, telling me I'm going to Hell, ect.
I'm just like, woah, chill out, man.
But the same applies to some Athiests I know, as well. I wanna kick some of them that I know, because they sit there and try to convince Christains they're smoking something, and... yeah.
People, seriously.

It's from the original Sonic TV show (the one most people call SatAM). I think it's much better than the shows that came after it, even though Knux isn't in it (I do kind of hate that - he's one of my favorite Sonic characters, too.)

Yeah, he's in Sonic X, which is okay, but... I'm not really fond of the direction they went in with that show (I'm not a Shadow fan, and the kid in it looks and acts just like Sora from Kingdom Hearts

I'm okay with Rouge, but Shadow... well, I think the fan-base is largely responsible there. I'm sick of seeing everyone trying to make Shadow and Sonic gay together. Shadow's a bit angsty, and that's enough for middle-schoolers with overactive hormones to make him Sonic's lover. Bleh. Anyone thinking Sonic would be okay with that is really misreading his character, I say.
I'm also not an Amy fan at all. Sally is smart, sassy, and courageous. Amy is... annoying.

I agree. It's the radicals who MAKE about half the anti-Christians in the first place. Some real nut jobs out there on both sides.
Being a Catholic Christian myself, I wish I could assert it more strongly that we aren't all like that without getting shot down by some form of troll or bigot or whatever.

I know what you mean. I've found, however, that saying "not all Christians are like that" is, in most cases, unnecessary, especially if we aren't actually acting like that anyway.

I understand through most of my adolescent youth on both sides of agnosticism and other religions beside Christianity and know what Wicca is an what they do, same with Hinduism and such, athiesm and Christianity on both sides, living in a Christian home.
I don't enjoy eating meat though, might try some veggie stuff to get healthy...
I'm also Presbyterian and respect others beliefs and lifestyle knowing what Wicc and a few others are all about so....y'know...
I'm not going to tell Athiests that they're wrong, but I do believe that being here on Earth is not all we are here for some reason...and we have yet to find out what we are happy with in life

I am saying that I have dabbled with some of every other Oriental religion besides Buddhism/Athiesm/Agnosticism, and they never wirked for me, but I always return back to what I feel like is with me always.Β

I'm saying this because I love the History channel documnetaries on ancient civilizations. Dating back to Semetic/Mesopotamian/ Asian-Indian times when cultures began to florish for our knowledge to obtain.Β

That God gave us brains for a reason, and for everyone, we need to stop with bad emotional outlooks/physical/situational/ judgement and over retaliations to people who will be condemned when the time is right with the Holy Trinity.

Agreed ... problem comes in when right wing atheists go around calling Christians complete idiots, morons, and a host of other names I cannot repeat here for their belief ... and it's for the exact reasons that the Bible is the truth but can't prove itself ... it's right wing Christians who over blow their trumpets that make me annoyed
I have had loads of arguments over the Bible and been told that I am a complete idiot (with both Christians and Atheists), just damned well given up on some of them (was half way through a very long response when I thought ... You know, this guy is just going to continue calling you an idiot even if you continue to back your points with historical documents ... just stop and let him be his own idiot)

I try not to go criticizing atheists - many of them are the way they are because they have been deeply hurt by Christians. But I agree that things would be much better if people on both sides would learn to show some respect, and of course, common sense.
It's also good to remember that, in the case of Bible vs. history - for every historical document that you find backing the Christian viewpoint, there is probably another one out there that tells a completely opposite story. The best case we can make for Christ is to show what a difference he has made in our own lives.

I criticise right wing ... the average Atheists are usually just as annoyed with the right wing Atheists as the average Christian is annoyed with the right wing Christian.
See, I have no problem with alternative historical views ... my problem comes in when I am called a mindless moron when I present historical documents and receive none back to either prove I am wrong or to provide an alternative view

"common sense" is a point of view often used by most humans that derives its perspective from what we consciously sense.
As a philosopher, I would think it would be a bad idea to ask Christians "use common sense", becuase saying that is often hinting that one is not as wise as they think they are. Some Christians would get offended by this.
Rather, I would say that things need to be looked at from all perspectives. It is good to use scripture, but it is often even better to also explain things deeper than just the scripture or to say things that are very parallel with scripture.
An example is when we say that God wants us to be happy, but he doesn't want us to sin. Some people will say that they can only be happy by doing things that are considered sin. We must then attempt to explain to them that God is a not just the creator of the universe, the most powerful being ever, etc, but also that God is a father figure to us, and just like any good father, he wants us to be happy and spiritually healthy, and he doesn't want us to suffer becuase of the wrong things we might do, just like how a father wouldn't want his child to date with a trouble-maker or criminal, becuase of the consequences ahead.
This is a good example of saying things that are parallel with scripture and the meanings of the scriptures.
