Description Okay, so this one's a bit long and drawn-out, but it's been weighing on me for a while to mention this kind of thing.

I've seen a lot of signatures here on DeviantArt that state something to the effect of "I believe in Jesus Christ. If you do, too, and you're not afraid to admit it, then paste this into your signature." Anybody noticed this? Unfortunately, some of the people who have that in their signature often seem to say the most hateful, un-Christlike things to anyone who disagrees with them.

I, too, believe in Jesus as my Savior, and I have no fear or shame of proclaiming that to anyone. But I will never put that tagline in my signature. That doesn't make me any less Christian, nor does it make me "afraid" of my faith in any way.

I've got news for you, folks. A few words in your signature do not make you a Christian. Fred Phelps uses words on pretty signs to convey messages of his un-Christian God of hate. Nor does wearing a cross pendant. Some of the most un-Christian rap songs are sung by people wearing huge cross pendants. Nor does having a WWJD bracelet if you don't actually apply the meaning of it to your life. Going to church doesn't do it, either. Some of the most evil people on earth go to church. Knowledge of scripture doesn't do it, either. The pharisees of Jesus's day had a knowledge of scripture that was second-to-none, yet they were the ones who were always in conflict with him. It takes more, even, than mere belief in God and Jesus. Guess what - satan believes in them! That certainly doesn't make him a Christian.

John 13:35 says, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples," not if you follow the fads, know scripture, can tell people of every sin they've committed, but... "that ye have love to one another."

That means a kind, unconditional, Christlike love for atheists, abortionists, gays/lesbians, Muslims, Goths, and any other group you can think of. Because Jesus didn't look at what clique people belonged to. He didn't look at race, religion, or nationality. He loved everyone. He never beat people over the head with their sin, either.

Christianity is not a social statement or fad. It is a lifestyle defined by love. You claim that God's love has transformed you. Prove it.

Okay, sorry for the sermon. Also, sorry if this is a bit too fast to read, but it's long enough as it is. Thank you, $zilla774 for the template.

If you don't want me to say thank you, then don't fave it. If you accuse me of not looking at your profile, I will point right to this section of the artist comments.

My friend Jonathan, may I ask you something, please.

Are you willing to sacrifice "something that you truly love" in order to get the love of God?

My mom's Catholic, and taught me that if someone hits me, hit them back, but also always taught me never to discriminate anyone. Weird because she at first refused to buy a Satanic Bible for me.

Anyway, I love this stamp. Awesome!

Oh, probably just as a siggy in some emailing websites, like Yahoo and such, or I'll use it on Yahoo Answers (Yes, I go on that sometimes) but I'll probably only give a link.
If I do use it though, I'll be sure to give credit and link back. Is that alright?

I agree. It's sad when people claim to be Christians and yet are extremely rude people. Jesus does call us, however, to tell the world about Him. But it can still be done in a polite, respective way.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HarmonicSonic In reply to Allendra3 [2011-05-23 00:10:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. The way I see it, He calls us to show the world about Him. If people see love making a difference in the way we live our lives, that is a far more effective message than any words we can say to anyone.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Allendra3 In reply to HarmonicSonic [2011-05-23 00:38:47 +0000 UTC]

True. But, of course, if they don't know we're a Christian, then it won't help them in anyway.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HarmonicSonic In reply to Allendra3 [2011-05-23 00:43:57 +0000 UTC]

It is by our actions, not our words, that people will know we are Christians. John 13:34-35 tells us this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Allendra3 In reply to HarmonicSonic [2011-05-23 00:53:02 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I'm not trying to say your wrong or anything. Our actions are very important and it's even more important, when representing God, to act like a Christian. But we shouldn't avoid talking about Him, especially just because we don't want to "offend" someone. They'll be plenty grateful that we took the time when they are saved.

But there are verses that support telling people about God. Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

I understand where you're coming from, because I'm not one to obsess about political correctness, either. And don't get me wrong - I'm not afraid to share my faith with people. But if we have a mentality of not caring about offending people, that is closing doors. And if it leads to people never being saved, then we will be held accountable for it.

Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

I'm not Catholic, but I think Saint Francis made a statement that addresses this very effectively. He said, "Preach constantly. When necessary, use words." I would venture that Jesus meant the same thing with his statements here.

I agree. It really gets on my nerves when I see Christians yelling at non-Christians and being rude. I mean, that's not going to convince them that Christianity is right.

This is a wonderful stamp. It's very sad to see Christians or religious people in general who are biased and rude simply because of another person's lack of similiar views.

Believe it or not, it's quite nice to have a conversation without being told you're going to hell every once in a while.

And also, though I do agree with most of the statements in the stamp, understand Scripture is key in knowing God more, so I wouldn't completely disregard that. Unless one is using Scripture solely to shame others and not improve themselves, then I can understand your point.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HarmonicSonic In reply to AutumnEmbers [2011-04-19 01:31:37 +0000 UTC]

I understand your point, and I'm not saying we should completely forget about the Bible. But God also gave us a mind and the ability to think for ourselves. It's a shame when we waste that gift by only speaking in scripture or religious clichΓ©s. I must respectfully disagree that understanding scripture is the key to knowing God more. The best way to know God better is to talk to him.

To put it in parable form, think of it this way: you're driving down the road and your car breaks down. You get it to a mechanic. The mechanic looks at your car, but instead of fixing it, he hands you a toolbox and says "everything you need to fix the car is in that toolbox". Now you're standing there with a toolbox, and a car that's still broken down.

See, the Bible is a toolbox. It has a lot of useful tools in it, but it can't fix the car. Only the Mechanic can do that.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate your comments

AutumnEmbers In reply to HarmonicSonic [2011-04-19 16:24:53 +0000 UTC]

Well yes, but we're able to know God through the scriptures because it's a living thing and we're able to have better understand through the Holy Spirit. I'm not saying we should rely solely on the Bible to communicate to God but there's a reason we have the Bible. It's used to build people up and there's so much to learn from it.

Thank you for making this. We often forget about the commandments Jesus gave to us in regards as to how we should follow him. First love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and secondly love your neighbor as yourself.

I'm not perfect, but through Christ I am made perfect. Through that, I want to show the love He's given me to others. I think sometimes we as Christian forget that.

Seriously people get mad because you didnt look at their profile after you thank thank them for a fav? Did i say that right, i might be misunderstanding. Its so bizarre you actually have to mention this in your own description, i cant believe some people.

Anyways, lol i couldnt of said your description of this stamp better myself. Was very clear and to the point and you covered a lot of issues some people are maybe fuzzy about. I loved tthis part: "Christianity is not a social statement or fad. It is a lifestyle defined by love."

I am def faving and you are welcome to thank or comment me anytime, i will not harp on your for not looking at my profile/gallery, lol. Some people.

I guess you could just call it a pet peeve of mine. I explain it in a bit more detail in the artist comments of another of my stamps: [link] It was starting to get on my nerves so I decided to try putting some disclaimers in my AC's from that point on. And with the exception of a couple people who don't read them, and one or two folks who are just determined to be offended by everything, this method seems to have worked pretty well.

Anyways, thanks for the comment and the fave, and sorry for my late response. I get a lot more messages than I used to for some reason, so it takes me a little longer to respond to them sometimes.
