Description A tutorial on how to create gradients in SAI.
Tutorial text ONLY:
-Zoom in 1600%
-Use the BINARY or LEGACY PEN tool to create a pattern. For linear gradients, just make a row or column of boxes a few pixels wide.
-Press CTRL+T to transform the boxes.
-Scale the row of pixels up. Zoom out as you go to make things easier.
-A WINNER IS YOU!

A lot of brushes can actually be found on DA  Most are being sold but you can find some free ones by searching for 'blotmap'

You drag the points until it covers the entire page.

yeah but it doesn't work for if you want small shapes which is a shape

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Koka-da-Kola In reply to ItsMakaruu [2013-05-01 11:55:24 +0000 UTC]

In that case, you might want to use the lasso tool

ItsMakaruu In reply to Koka-da-Kola [2013-05-02 00:52:35 +0000 UTC]

yeah but its part of the picture and its not meant to grow cause its already in the right position and the right size :/ (i just made it with a lotta colours and blurring in the end xD )

SilverWindStar [2013-01-21 05:55:47 +0000 UTC]

kaaaaaaaay.......um 'click on a control square and drag the mouse to scale up the selected area' ...did that and all it did was make it bigger, no gradient blending power going on. ??????

Select a 1 x 1 pixel with the rectangular select tool and use the paint bucket.

Yay, it makes the illusion of blending well when it is on large canvas Thank you for this.

HarunaAkatsuki In reply to Kairi09Kawaii [2012-05-12 13:44:28 +0000 UTC]

Glad it worked for you!

To the people who it isn't working for, did you try going from 1x2 pixels to 1000 x 2000 or so?

Doesnt work to the level of a real gradient tool, though P: useful tut anyhow.

Oh my, the most awesome things are also the easiest ones! This is much better than blending colors with Blur or Water! Thank you so much for this tutorial, I'll use it for my next picture for sure! ^__^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HarunaAkatsuki In reply to Juricha-the-geek [2011-10-30 11:45:49 +0000 UTC]

Aww thank you!

An alternate way is just using the airbrush too. Water and Blur show brush strokes and hand jitter too easily.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Juricha-the-geek In reply to HarunaAkatsuki [2011-10-30 12:22:29 +0000 UTC]

You are most welcome!
Nah, airbrush doen't give such a smooth gradient as this method does.
And just as I said, I've used your tutorial for my picture: [link] . It is not too noticeable (except the eyes), but it allowed me to apply a lot of color effects that I couldn't made otherwise. Once again, thank you very for your tutorial.
