I should really post my updated version of this. And by 'updated' I mean 'totally different'.

I think you should get one of those russian hats. You know the ones with the ear muffs... never mind.

We had to cancel todays skirmish. -26 degrees is a little too much.

Cool, as little sense as desert camo in a snowy environment makes...

Actually you seem to see them using a mix of woodland and desert. Desert is lighter, I guess.
I have a whole series of photos somewhere of Marines doing a training op in the snow, and they're all wearing desert MARPAT. Looks a little funky, but I guess it stands out less than darker woodland camo.

I guess. Afterall, I'm not entirely sure if there's a "snow" camo that's widely used (never saw any non-urban, white BDU at the Military Surplus).

The EMT shears are left there from when I ran the rig in my Pararescue kit, but you often seem to see frontline soldiers carrying them as well. They're useful for cutting through kit and clothing if a soldier sustains an injury, although they have a whole load of practical uses on the airsoft skirmish field as well

Whatever you do, dont cut cardboard with them
They can cut a penny in half, but cardboard dulls the blades like nothing else.
Sweet kit son.

You should have white trousers to replace those DCU:s. Would be more practical.
We have a good 20-30cm of snow here too

I leave it down there 'til I need it, since they're a bit clumsy and frickin' hot to wear. I need it, all I have to do it loosen it off and yank it up.

That's why we call them ankle warmers in the industry.

Ah I see that makes sense!
What does the patch on your arm mean?

HaVoCMaN In reply to jenniferlaura [2007-02-08 21:06:02 +0000 UTC]
The patch is just the logo of the company who made the jacket

Ah right I thought it was one of the patches you get in the army to show your rank and stuff like that, I need to learn what they all mean as when I went to the selection centre I kept on getting all the different ranks muddled up and calling people the wrong thing. They probably expected me to do that though being a Essex girl and all!

I never learned the ranks, either. I was in the CCF and bugger me if I ever got a rank right.
I remember they were on a Part 1 test we had to do, and no-one knew them, so the guy 'invigilating' the test just gave us the answers...

I guess I'll learn them during my basic training after being shouted at a few times for getting it wrong!

They're not actually that warm, but they make a great piece of a layered system. They stop wind and precipitation really well, so if you stick a warm fleece under there, it's great.

That's what I was aiming at. I hate wearing my bulky winter coat and having to stuff it awkwardly in my chair when I sit down in class. Layers are simply the best solution.

You should look at the TAD site, then. IIRC they're doing another run in ME Green and Black in the next couple of months.

I guess it's worth the $230 USD. Maybe. Hell, it'll make up for its costs in time from to durability, utility, and good looks, like i always say to expensive clothes I want.
