1998 movie was Zilla.
1998-2000 animated series was truly a GODZILLA.

Zilla was just a Kaiju that the US Military mistook for Godzilla

Not a better design, not 'bad ass'. Shit and pathetic would be a better description.

Hm this looks more realistic, and much better design. The other looks like a guy in a barny suit, but with more scales and spikes.

Yea I agree, the old Godzilla does look like a guy in a suit. Even the 2014 remake didnt look that cool to me. Godzilla or "Zilla" of 1998 looks way more badass and believable .

Β no zilla does not have a better design than godzilla and zilla is so weak he gets killed by 4 missile's from fighter jets while godzilla gets hit with 20 tanks and 30 fighter jets and over 20 monsters with out dying with out taking him down with the monsters and this is a worst monster then zillaΒ yonggary

Look it's made more realistic, the other may have less weakness but theres no excitement. Cause you know he's not gonna die. The other makes you wonder what is gonna happen cause you know it has weakness and there is a possibility it may not make it. And yes this GODZILLA got killed by missiles and stuff but it took a lot before it died. Not to mention the cartoon version is also pretty amazing. It has somethings from the other but is made to look a lot better.

zilla didn't take that much in his movie and even Godzilla took down more buildings in his own movie's and every godzilla version can defeat zilla and zilla is not realistic

Yes, Zilla is Godzilla '98, but Godzilla '98 is not Zilla. This is because Zilla is a LATER VARIATION of Godzilla '98 just like Kiryu is a later variation of Mechagodzilla.Β Β Β

You call THIS the better design? This artwork stands as humiliation to Gojira! Have you ever been able to tell the difference between a lizard name Gino or zilla and a mutated Godzillasaurus? RETARD!

Dude, the movie aired like 19 years ago, let it go, besides it's a bit more decent than the Shin Godzilla movie, that movie's Godzilla is a nightmare fuel version of the original Godzilla, that's a Godzilla that will make children cry, Satan puke and medusa turn to stone, it will even scare it's second form be like, "wait, I'm gonna grow up into that? Oh hell no!" Just no, so you listen here, get over it, Zilla has had enough of the abuse.

Very late to this, but not saying you have to like the design of shin, but last time I checked, something thats been horribly exposed to excessive amounts of radiation and thereby mutating is not gonna look pretty. Just saying. Godzilla was always meant to be a misunderstood creature that lives in pain.

While I agree with you that the design was good, Zilla's actions are what insulted the Godzilla linage. It was too much of a simple animal dancing through New York buildings. In the Japanese films (and the 2014 American movie), he is either an entity of natures wrath when alone, or bringing balance when fighting other Kaiju. Zilla didn't do enough damage to be natures wrath and there was nothing for it to fight.
The animated series fixed this, so the design is somewhat worthy.

It was a remake of the original 1954 classic, in which Godzilla is portrayed in pretty much the very same manner as in the 1998 film, and I'm glad it was (not being influenced by any concepts of later films, but staying true to the original, which I grew up with). That is one reason why I adore TriStar's rendition of the monster, with another reason being that they actually gave it a very cool and unique design along with making the special effects appear realistic and haunting. As far as it comes to being a "wrath of nature" (that's an odd religious term by the way), Godzilla himself in the 1998 film was indeed a formidable threat wreaking havoc and terror all across his path and throughout and around New York City. But to make things even worse, he was about to spawn hundreds more of himself, forcing mankind to witness the future dominion of Godzilla upon this very planet as the ultimate alpha predator. It was only by striking at the heart of Godzilla, by decimating his beloved children which were supposed to inherit the Earth, that man was able to defeat this mighty foe. It was all through sheer luck that they succeeded to track down the nest in time and to lure the beast into its own destruction. A happy yet tragic story, and much can be said about it still. But of course, as we all witnessed, the reign of Godzilla was not yet over... If you ask me, the animated series that followed didn't fix anything and did not need to either, but all that it did was to continue the legacy of one of Godzilla's greatest and most iconic incarnations in all of kaiju history. When it comes to fighting other monsters (apart from mankind), we would have seen (but did see in the cartoon) Godzilla restoring balance in the sequels that would have followed, but sadly were not produced. Yet I still have hopes, and I always wish things were different.
But that's just my opinion.Β Β Β Β
