Description

This has been in the works for quite some time now, but I finally found the time to finish it! This is the first show for my little lady Lucy; let's see how she'll do! <3

It was very early that morning, that Lily pushed open the wooden slider doors to the stable and a few heads greeted her over their stall door. ''Hey Passie,'' she greeted the palomino mare back as she stroke her soft, pink nose before passing her stall. It wasn't Passie she was coming for, even though she loved to cuddle the palomino before passing her. It was Lucy, who was still in the back of her stall peacefully munching on her hay, that she would be on the go with today. They had been training for the last couple of weeks -- making long routes through the forests surrounding the ranch. Even though Lucy was still young and insecure here and there, she was a great mount to work with and one Lily trusted her life with. That was why she dared to sign them up for a competition already; Lucy could really use the experience without the pressure of a big heavy show. The Fall Hunter Pace seemed to be perfect and that was why she a few hours later was on the road, with Lucy in the trailer behind the car.

''Shhh, steady girl,'' she softly spoke as she stroke Lucy's neck. The mare was frisky and very well aware of her surroundings, her head held high and her nostrils flared widely. She wanted to respond on everything but frankly it was too many for her to do so. Thus she lowered her head, nipped at her chest and than focussed on Lily beside her, who tried to calm her. ''It's okay girl, you'll do fine. Wait and see what we're doing here and I promise you you will love it,'' Lily smiled and with a light click of her tongue she took the mare with her, tacked up and ready to go.

With a strong pace they took off. Lucy was eager to go, ears pinned forwards, her hooves leaving hoof prints in the dirt and grass beneath them. She felt like she finally could release some stress and put her energy towards going somewhere, and going somewhere she was. Lily let her go for a little while until she felt a little less jumpy and took her back to a light walk. The class she had started them in was the slow division, to keep it low pace and gaining experience, instead of blindly going for the win. This was all mend to get Lucy some experience under her belt and for herself to get a feel with the black mare on unknown terrain.

The longer they were on the road the more she felt like the forest around them seemed to consume their stress. They felt one, her hooves rhythmically beating the ground beneath them. Her chest, her legs, her belly were covered in mud and so where the white socks on her hind legs. But she was enjoying herself, and so was Lily. They might make the course a little to fast, but it didn't matter. In their eyes this had already been succesfull.

Nawww, Lucy and Lily look like two sweethearts - I love how you illustrated their bond during this experience! And they both have braids in their hair, how cool is that? #MatchyMatchy

Speaking of matching, thought, that orange tack looks absolutely fab on her! It makes them pop out nicely from the background, but doesn't clash with the earthy tones of the scenery - and it fits the autumn theme to a T too

Lovely work!
