Description
It always makes me immensely proud to see my paintings being published in books. This is the final layout of the field guide I was working on for the last few months. It's finally taking shape...

I don't have the book, but this looks like what I've seen from McConnell's Field Guide to the Snakes of Costa Rica. Is that this book?

Thank you! Yes, it is a great feeling to have the book in my hand with my drawings in it. I wish I would happen more often.

I'll say it again [for like the umpteenth time].. You are the best, woman! When this thing gets published, let me know. I want to get a copy. Might even send it to you so you can sign it.
EXCELLENT WORK!!!

Thank you so much, Rich!!! I have no idea when it's due to be published, for some reason publishers never seem to think it would be important to us illustrators. They pay us, then one never hear from them again, only if new work needs to be done. I did work earlier this year for a school book published by Oxford University Press New York, I'm still harassing them for telling me where I can either get the book, or them just sending me a PDF of the pages with my drawings in, so I can add it to my portfolio. They ignore my mails, though. I do realise they have a lot of things to do, and answering the requests of their artists is no priority on their list of things to do, but still. It would be a nice gesture, wouldn't it? I keep my ears on the ground and will let you know as soon as I find out when or where it is available!

Thank you so much!! Aww, no need to be envious... Well, I'm a trained book illustrator, it would be sad if my stuff would be published sometimes, wouldn't it?! It's just a wonderful thing to see, every time it happens. I just wish it would happen more often with interesting subjects like this (woohoo, animals!!!). I do a lot of drawings I don't put here on DA because they are boring and not interesting to look at. Like technical drawings for manuals. Meh.

It's just fantastic to earn one's daily life with art For me it's just a hobby - but at least I can paint whatever I want, that's the advantage
Technical drawings do indeed not sound that interesting :/ Anyway, wonderful to see your finished work printed hundred times in real books!
Your hard work really paid off.

Excellent work, beautiful subject. I know about the subject as I have one, although he's made of wood in my gallery and is my walking companion. I fully understand the pride, it truly must be a huge lift to see it published especially after working on a piece that requires such perfection. Of which you always seem to accomplish.

Thank you so much Ken for your wonderful kinds words!
Trust me, most of my work is far from perfection and I more often fight with frustration and tears than being pleased. I do produce a lot of work which ends up in the dustbin (or is simply painted over with something else for this very reason), which no one ever gets to see. I often completely question my abilities as an artist. >.<
These snakes were quite a struggle as well, especially as they had to be very accurate and I am (was) not very familiar with the subject. I had only very little photos of the species I had to draw, in some cases non at all and had to work my way through piles of scientific papers with only descriptions of the snakes. I was lucky, the scientists who wrote the book were available to help, they looked over every steps of the paintings and gave me advice how to improve it. I have definitely grown on this work...

Growing is good, and when the end result is similar to yours well then it's great.
