I've been hampered by only having access to a forge two months out of the year (can't build my own, in a residential area), and the forge I DO have access to is too small to do blades over 18". Shaping I have down, finishing work I am getting down, but heat-treating with longer blades is still on the to-do list. Some day...

I use a small whisper daddy propane forge. Wasnt easy and took cracker jack timing, but I have managed to heat treat blades up to 42 inches long with it. Propanes pretty user friendly in residential neighborhoods as its really no more dangerous than a propane BBQ grill and its easy to get fuel for.

yeah, I'm stuck with coal... neighbors do not particularly care for sulfurous black smoke pouring through their yards and homes
