Joint project: Russian Shashka. Blade was forged from 1075 and the handle and final assembly was done by me and the bronze furniture was carved and cast by Albert Kohnke.Related content

Wow that's a long blade! Are they usually that long on a Shashka? This is my first time even hearing about this type of sword.

Most of the blades on the ones I looked at were around 27-29 inches. This ones 29 inches.

I suppose it's comparable to some of their contemporaries, but I know nothing about Russian sword-fighting tradition. All I know is they had some strong cavalry swords. It's a very nice sword, you and your partner made something beautiful. Why this sword, though?
