There, just did. Of course, my spiral isn't near as tight as yours. I started forging it to be a loose spiral, to look more like wind. But once I realized how much material I had, and because I was forging it with a hammer, it sort of just happened

It's a set up used to create a perfect bend. Like to pegs sticking up that locks the steel in place, so that when you bend it, it curves perfectly.

I'm not too great at explaining. I'm sure you know what it is, just under a different name. Ironwork blacksmiths use them all the time for spiraling gates and railing pieces.
