“After many years of searching and training Bruce Wayne was finally returning to Gotham. He ached to begin his war on crime but fate intervened. As he travelled across Eastern Europe he was attacked by a creature of the night. If not for his highly trained reflexes Bruce would surely have died. As it was he barely escaped.

Three days later, as huddled in some comforting shadows, Bruce began to realise that he had not escaped unscathed. He had been infected - he had become undead, a vampire, a monster.

He did the only thing he could, he called Alfred to collect him and take him home.

But Alfred could not console him or take his pain away. Deep in the bowels of Gotham Mansion Bruce screamed his rage against the world. A scarlet hunger tore his insides and he felt that his quest to avenge his parents had failed before it had even started. He wept and decided to destroy himself and the creature that he had become.

Crimson tears stained his cheeks as Bruce stood in his fathers study and readied himself to join his parents. A he raised the stake fate intervened once more to reveal his true purpose. A bat, that mighty and terrible beast of the night, shattered the windows of the study. Transfixed by the image of the bat Bruce saw what he must become.

With Alfred’s support Bruce’s iron will was able to tame his thirst and he began to hone his new abilities. He embraced the monster within but only as far as it would further his quest. Now he could truly wage a terrifying and eternal war on crime. “
