Description I had a request if I can do a tutorial about traditional lineart

The tutorial was getting long so I will separate into part 1 and 2 (will upload the part 2 later)
and may be make a compilation of all the pictures I took
while drawing this work.

Thank you SO much! By the way, are Uni-Pin fineliners marker proof?

yes! uni pen is safe to use with
copic, zig, and touch marker
as far as I know

Thank you. I work with Letraset Promarkers, but I'm assuming that they're safe too. Your work in the tutorial was lovely, it inspired me to get another drawing done. I don't have an overly steady hand, so some of my lines shake. When I ink a piece that I'm very proud of, my heart is in my mouth! But I'm 14, so I have a lot of time to practice!

Wow!
XD You must have such a steady hand lol.
The inks look amazing.

What do you do if you make a mistake?? Do you use white out or something? (I always find that it makes the paper messy though)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hemllock In reply to Llunet1 [2012-05-17 03:57:16 +0000 UTC]

thank you
I try not to make mistake.
but when I do, instead of using white ink, I make a shadow or
color it black to cover it
cuz white ink makes it really messy

Ah. X3
I try to do that too. But I make waaay too many mistakes so in the end it doesn't work out at all XD

haha very nice work... very clean and well defined drawing... I just wanna ask the difference between the three pens you have there... and their uses...

I also abide with your method but Instead I use a ball-point pen for inking usually about 0.5... I also use it for inking the darkest areas even large ones so my hands get tired...

I'll dedicate more effort to my work... I'm inspired by your sensitivity to details... I'm too lazy to go over details that much but I'm learning though... learning that detail is so important to achieve a clear image of what we are drawing...

hope you reply... thanks for this

I use copic multiliner for fine details, like eyes and lashes.
rotring variant for coloring black area.
uni drawing pen for the whole line work and the hair.
if you are interested pls do check out the part2 in my gallery

this is so cooooool!!! really really good job!! :3

I personally like the first rough sketch better, cuz i like the way how the mouth is alittle open and the eyes have more lashes x3

but still awesome *-* you put so many details in it!! that'S really impressive!

very helpful! i love this tutorial
i've heard of 0.05 and smaller..are they any good as well? i use (not seen on my dA at all) a ball point pen and it tends to give wave-y or straight hair a softer look to it (?) anyhow, how long does it take you to draw a detailed picture with a backround?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hemllock In reply to CrystalLilacs [2011-10-28 12:58:13 +0000 UTC]

thank you!I'm so glad
I do have 0.05 but it's too fine for me... I don't use it so much
and I think there is 0.03 (but I don't need it)
for a drawing with full background...I take
2~3 hours for pencil sketch
4~6 hours for inking (or more)
6~12 hours for coloring (or more)

Really helpful! Esp. since sometimes I don't know whether or not I will use the pen or the medium itself to put details on it. Now I see that the pen is easily as effective depending on what I need

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hemllock In reply to ycag3db1rd [2011-06-08 02:49:25 +0000 UTC]

usually I just use 2~3pens for a work (0.1,0.2 and 0.5)
you don't need so much materials to draw something
but I think 0.1 pen is a must have item!

InfinityTingTing [2011-06-06 17:30:06 +0000 UTC]

Really detailed and interesting!! Makes me want to buy copic markers and try this technique out! Sometimes I simply used a 0.3 Black ball pen, but the result is not as good as yours~!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hemllock In reply to InfinityTingTing [2011-06-08 02:42:35 +0000 UTC]

I think 0.3 is too thick to make fine lines, and ballpen ink tend to blot.
copics are a little expensive, if you
come across uni or staedtler it's cheaper option
