Description
Illustrated in Deleter #4 Black Drawing Ink with Crow Quill Pen and Brush on Canson 9x12 Smooth Bristol Board.A second attempt at the 11th Doctor and his new companion Amy Pond.
Even though I was very disappointed to see David Tennant depart from the role, even from the beginning I was very willing to give Matt Smith a chance. But Doctor Who is always been like that. Even if you find a particular Doctor not as good as another one, each actor adds a different layer to the onion.
And I think it keeps the show fresh to have this rebirth every three or four (or even seven) years.
After seeing his debut in "The End of Time" and the preview for the upcoming series, I'm starting to warm up to young Matt Smith and his costume. I didn't hate it when I first saw it, but compared to the long coat, stylish suit and trainers worn during Tennant's time, I thought the new attire was on the slightly bland side.
But at the same time there was this part of me that liked that amalgamation of the Second and Seventh Doctor's attire in a less crumpled look.
Looking at the previews, it definitely seems like Steven Moffat is writing the type of stories he probably would have loved to write for Peter Davison's Doctor. I noticed a little bit of that wide-eyed enthusiasm in Smith when he said "Okay, what have you got for me this time" that kind of reminded me of Davison.
I'm not completely sure what the new Doctor and new companion Amy Pond are going to be like. But looking at the previews, I really like the fact Karen Gillian is so expressive with her eyes.
Also while I was drawing this illustration, like my previous one I tried to keep in mind that Karen Gillian is a rather tall drink of water compared to past companions. So, I drew her closer to the Doctor's height.
I think they're closer in height because Smith isn't as tall as David Tennant was. Which is always a good thing to have the new Doctor sightly different in some way. Either age, look or height.
The other thing I like about the new series is how the TARDIS exterior resembles the one from Peter Cushing's Dr. Who and the Daleks movies. They previous series had already pinched an idea from that movie having the TARDIS door just look like a Police Box door from the inside like movie. So, I kind of like how they're continuing with that
You may also notice that I gave the new Doctor a slightly retro Sonic Screwdriver like the one Tom Baker and Paul McGann had as opposed to the new design they have done.
I would actually love if they went back to that design
