Description
This is an HDR shot in an old underground ammunition storage room at an old WW-1 bunker. Above the icicles there is a rusting corrugated iron roof, and to the left a small window opens into a cliff that drops a few hundred feet to the ocean. I've now removed the DA watermark and added my own.Other shots of the same complex:

I must say I'm quite surprised by the fact that this is an HDR. All the shades are very dark.
Though I understand you want to emphasize the enlightened part, I think you could have chosen parameters that give more details in the foreground (dark areas).
Just a suggestion

Yeah, I have RAWs for all three sections so I could definitely bring more detail out but I kind of liked it this way. I periodically remake my HDRs and panoramas, though, as I see problems with them, so I may redo this eventually. Thanks for the comment.

I went to an old bunker in Washington state. It was kind of freaky walking through there, I can't imagine how freaky it must have been for soldiers back then.

I know, hey? Thanks so much for commenting. It must have been interesting to see that bunker as well.

Increase your dynamic range so you could get it more dynamic.. it could have been a legendary shot.
If you have the RAW file, send it over and I'll show you what I mean.

Ehehe, no thanks, I'm not in the habit of sending my high-resolution RAW files to complete strangers over the internet. I make a living doing this and went to great trouble to take these shots.
This image is already a high dynamic range composite, and while I could certainly brighten the nearer cave walls a bit I don't think the image would gain much from it - I like it the way it is. But thanks anyway.

The focus on the light just makes it more interesting to look at. I love old WW stuff, so this is right up my alley. Great shot!

So much intensity, thinking about what exactly that place was. I can hardly imagine being there in person.

I know, it had a palpable history to it, it really made me want to know more about its history.

Interesting expression... Like the hairs on the back of your neck are standing up? Also, the ice water is creeping up your shoes, ha ha (the floor was covered in about two inches of water and ice).

omg - did you take it during the winter? or is it sort of steadily covered with ice?

HerrHaller In reply to thanksthatisenough [2011-12-16 05:33:12 +0000 UTC]
Yes, well in Nova Scotia where I was living at the time the winter is very warm. It will snow and then thaw and then repeat all winter, even get to plus 10 or 15 during the winter, which I know to a German is not remarkable but for Canada it's sweet. Anyway, this was in early spring, Feb. or March, during a warm snap when some of the ice was melting. It was more than a little unnerving because you couldn't see the bottom through the water, so I was never quite sure how far down it was. The melt/thaw thing is probably the same thing that created the stalagmites in the other shot, I'm convinced if I'd been there two weeks earlier or later they'd have been gone.

HerrHaller In reply to thanksthatisenough [2011-12-16 20:47:20 +0000 UTC]
I study Biology. I'm especially interested in Mycology, and medicinal uses for mushrooms (some of which are VERY powerful medicines!) and ecotoxicology, the effect of human toxins on ecosystems and creatures. I wrote a 15 page paper last year as a final paper for a Conservation Biology course, on Colony Collapse Disorder and the connection between pesticides made by Bayer, a connection which is hardly even controversial anymore in France and Germany but which our government refuses to acknowledge despite mountains of evidence.

Well it is a storage room built in a cave. Whether the cave is manmade or not I don't know. Thanks for commenting.
