Umm~School's being an ass again by throwing more work in my face.
So here's what I have thus far for that FreeFall fanart... just the lighting and shadow's are somewhat ewww-looking, but it's a WIP so don't be a stupid bitch about it. 
It's called *nice* suggestions! XD I liked how the skin shadow parts turned out... the blue lighting I'm not sure about... just threw it there.I'll probably won't get back to this until next... fine, some time in May. .____.

I luv how you colored this! Normally she has bright pink hair n somewhat bright colored clothing which made me alittle indifferent about the character..especially since i'm not a fan of those colors. But the way you toned down the colors is magnifacant! And the design around her is so detailed and beautiful! Oh! and her face is very lovely!

well, I think u did a great job colouring, really like the blue soft cool light coming from the right...and great how the crazy bg is gradient-like versus the black bg and the lighter char...^_^

I know what you're saying by mean school. But hey, you are still putting out pretty quality art. The only concern I can see is the lower/middle left hand side is a little unbalanced, but maybe you're going for that look... Kind of matches the Gen13 idea

thats a great tutorial to teach you how light reacts on different forms.
As for coloring, I started a new technique on the past few pieces that really seems to draw the color together better than before. Basically, lay down a dark color first and paint dark to light. Its simple but effective. And the initial base color you choose can help you set a mood for the painting.

its looking good to me. the easiest way to figure out shadows is just determine where your lightsource is coming from and then just paint lightened areas in the spots that are facing that lightsource. as the surface slowly turns away then your shadowing gradually takes over the coloring there. if there is something blocking the lightsource, then the shadow cast from it(lets say an arm is blocking the light) will have sharp edges unlike the gradual shadow. Soft, rounded forms have soft gradual shadows when they turn from the light. things with hard edges, like a cube, will have more abrupt shadows.
