Saiyans look so much more defined as diverse with their Tails rather than without. Not sure why Toriyama wanted to go in that different direction, though.

It could have been that keeping the tail meant more limbs to articulate and pose, and Toriyama wanted to lessen the work for his chapter deadlines.
Adding the tail is extra work for drawing out action scenes. (though he could have just kept it close to the body like a belt. I think it was a later development though, after Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta came in. Kid Goku never had it wrapped around his waist.)

That, and I believe it made him look more 'human' toward a mainstream society. Maybe *that's* why Toriyama excluded the Tail on him. And Trunks. And Goten...

Start with the mainers (The current geberation, Gokuu, Vegita, Bulma etc.) please. That makes thing easier to get.
